The Mumbai Traffic Police have received a death threat against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, prompting heightened security measures.
An official confirmed on Sunday morning that the traffic control room received the threatening message from an unknown number on Saturday evening. The caller warned that if Adityanath did not resign from his position as Chief Minister, he would be killed like the slain NCP leader Baba Siddique.
As Adityanath is expected to visit Maharashtra for the state assembly election campaign, police have increased their vigilance. An investigation has been launched to track down the sender of the message. Following the threat, security for the Chief Minister has also been bolstered.
Baba Siddique was shot dead by three assailants outside his son Zeeshan Siddique's office during Dussehra celebrations on October 12, heightening concerns over the safety of political figures.
As per investigations into Siddique's assassination, a contract killing module based in Thane, consisting of five members, was initially hired to assassinate a former Maharashtra minister. However, the module ultimately withdrew from the contract due to a dispute over the demand for Rs 50 lakh to carry out the hit, expressing concerns about the influence of the late politician. Despite backing out, the module reportedly provided logistical support and other assistance related to the planned execution, it has been learnt from police sources.
