The Mumbai Crime Branch has initiated the extradition process for Anmol Bishnoi, the younger brother of notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. Anmol is wanted in connection with a series of high-profile criminal cases, including a recent firing incident outside actor Salman Khan’s residence, which has drawn significant media attention. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has placed Anmol on its most-wanted list, offering a reward of Rs 10 lakh for any information leading to his arrest.
The extradition proposal was prompted by information received from US authorities confirming Anmol Bishnoi’s presence in the United States. A senior police official indicated that the proposal has been officially forwarded to the relevant authorities after the US informed Mumbai police of Anmol’s whereabouts.
Reports indicate that Anmol faces more than 17 criminal cases in India, with serious allegations linked to the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala. He is accused of supplying the firearms used in several high-profile killings, including the weapons involved in the murder of former NCP leader Baba Siddique, which occurred on October 12. These weapons include a Turkey-made Tisas pistol and a Glock firearm, both crucial pieces of evidence in the ongoing investigation.
Further investigations have uncovered that Anmol Bishnoi maintained contact with individuals involved in these crimes via social media, allegedly operating from both Canada and the US. The Mumbai police have made significant progress in the case, having arrested ten individuals related to Baba Siddique’s murder, including two shooters and an arms supplier.
The Mumbai Police, on October 16, notified the Sessions Court of their intent to extradite Anmol to face charges related to the shooting incident involving Salman Khan. A police official stated that Anmol is believed to have orchestrated various criminal operations on behalf of his brother Lawrence Bishnoi, who is currently incarcerated in Gujarat’s Sabarmati jail.
A recent court ruling denied bail to one of the shooters involved in the Salman Khan case, citing evidence that they acted under Anmol’s direction. Both Anmol and Lawrence Bishnoi, originally from Fazilka in Punjab, are considered key figures in a broader investigation into organized crime.
In a move that underscores the seriousness of the situation, the Mumbai Crime Branch has approached the special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court, expressing its intention to initiate the extradition process for Anmol Bishnoi. The court has allowed the police to file an affidavit for further necessary action.
Both Bishnoi brothers are implicated in the April 14 firing incident outside Salman Khan's residence in Bandra, where a group of assailants carried out the attack. Two of those involved, Vicky Gupta and Sagar Pal, along with others such as Sonukumar Bishnoi, Mohammed Rafiq Choudhary, and Harpal Singh, have been arrested and are currently in judicial custody. Another accused, Anujkumar Thapan, tragically committed suicide while in police custody.
In the chargesheet related to the shooting incident, both Lawrence and Anmol Bishnoi have been explicitly named as wanted accused. Additionally, in connection with Baba Siddique’s murder, 15 individuals have been arrested, further pointing to the Bishnoi brothers' potential involvement.
Lawrence Bishnoi remains in Sabarmati jail, where he continues to be a focal point of ongoing investigations.
