Minta Devi, Opposition's poster girl in Bihar SIR protest, lashes out at Gandhis: 'Who gave them the right to...'

I did not get anyone’s (from administration) phone call… Why are they becoming my well-wisher over my age?… This should not be done, I do not want this, says Minta Devi.

Minta Devi is a 35-year-old woman living in Bihar's Siwan district

After Opposition MPs protested over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) by wearing T-shirts featuring her name and alleged age, Minta Devi from Bihar’s Siwan district hit out at the politicians for wearing T-shirts that bore her face.

Several Opposition MPs on Tuesday wore T-shirts with “Minta Devi” and her picture emblazoned on them and “124 Not Out” written at the back during a protest in the Parliament House complex. According to the opposition leaders, Minta Devi is a "124-year-old first-time voter" whose name was found on Bihar's voter list.

However, Minta Devi (35) has been added to the state's electoral roll for the first time years after she became eligible to cast a vote.

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who was among those who wore the t-shirt, said there were several such cases in which addresses and names of relatives are all fake.

Saying that she learnt of the matter only about "2-4 days back", Devi told ANI that she was not informed by the administration about the Opposition's protest. “I did not get anyone’s (from administration) phone call… Why are they becoming my well-wisher over my age?… This should not be done, I do not want this,” she said.

Her husband, Dhananjay Kumar Singh, is an e-rickshaw driver.

She also demanded that her age and other details in the state's electoral data be corrected as soon as possible. "I will not submit any more documents to get this corrected as it was not me who is at fault; The officials are".

Minta Devi also said that if her age, according to government documents, is over 100 years, why is she not getting a pension. “If I am 124-years-old in the eyes of the government, why are they not giving me an old age pension? My Aadhaar Card mentions 15-07-1990 as my date of birth."

According to a report by The Hindu, the Siwan District Magistrate’s office issued a press statement saying that the age shown in Devi’s voter card was due to a “human error” and it was made by her husband while filing the online form. The process of correction has already started, the statement said.

Devi’s father-in-law Tej Bahadur Singh alleged that the BLOs were not going door-to-door for verification. “The BLOs filled most of the enumeration form on their own. If they would have visited our house, we could have told them about the number of family members and their age,” he told The Hindu.
