The Indian Army's robotic dog - Sanjay - made an impressive debut at the Republic Day parade in Kolkata, capturing the attention of dignitaries and the audience alike. These cutting-edge robotic dogs, part of the MULE (Multi Utility Legged Equipment) series, showcased their versatile capabilities, marking a significant technological milestone.

Designed as all-weather ground robots, the 'Sanjay' robotic dogs are equipped for a range of operations, including explosives detection and disposal, surveillance, perimeter security, and asset protection. They are also prepared for operations in chemical, biological, and nuclear warfare environments. These robots can navigate challenging terrains such as climbing stairs, and steep hills, and overcoming obstacles, enhancing their utility in diverse operational scenarios.

The Republic Day parade, held on Kolkata's Red Road, featured an array of impressive displays, with contingents from the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force, West Bengal Police, Kolkata Police, Rapid Action Force, and the Disaster Management Group. West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose unfurled the national flag, and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee participated in the festivities.

Alongside the robotic dogs, the parade also showcased advanced artillery systems, such as the 'Pinaka' and 'Smerch' missile systems, and new-generation military vehicles. Cultural performances, including the 'Kukri' dance by artists from Darjeeling, as well as student performances from the Sundarbans, added a vibrant touch to the ceremony.

At the national level, West Bengal's Republic Day tableau at Kartavya Path in Delhi highlighted the state's 'Lakshmir Bhandar' scheme, which provides guaranteed monthly income to women. The tableau also celebrated the state's rich cultural and artistic heritage through the 'Lok Prasar Prakalpa' initiative, with a prominent 'Durga' idol and accompanying Chhau dancers.
