A 29-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly cheated, sexually assaulted and robbed a woman of Rs 20 lakh and 200 grams of gold after he faked a romantic relationship with her.

The case apparently began in Nelamangala and involved two sisters, NDTV reported. According to police, the man, Shubham Shukla, first became friends with a minor girl and assaulted her. He then used her to have access to her family after that.

Following this, Shukla also targeted her elder sister and lured her into a live-in relationship. He also convinced her to lie to her family and tell them that she was moving to Mumbai for work.

The couple then stayed together in Bengaluru for three years and it was during this time that he allegedly stole money and valuables from her.

The girl later found out that Shukla was already married and he promised her to divorce his wife once she confronted him. However, he abused her daily.

Unable to bear it, the woman escaped and filed a complaint against Shukla. NDTV reported that the police have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and cheating charges. Shukla was arrested and remains in custody as investigations continue, the report further said.
