Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that many people in Bengal still do not have access to drinking water. He asserted that if a BJP government comes to power in the state, a transformation similar to Tripura would take place, ensuring basic amenities for every household.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said he was witnessing a “sea of humanity” at Singur, adding that he could not see the end of the crowd behind him. Addressing the gathering, he said the enthusiasm and energy on display were shaping a new narrative for West Bengal, with farmers, workers, and young people turning out in large numbers.

Addressing a gathering, the Prime Minister said, “Yesterday, the country’s first Vande Bharat sleeper train was launched from West Bengal. Bengal also received about half a dozen new Amrit Bharat Express trains. Today, three more Amrit Bharat Express trains were inaugurated. One of these trains will further strengthen the connectivity between my parliamentary constituency, Kashi (Varanasi), and Bengal.”

The new services are expected to enhance regional connectivity, improve passenger convenience, and support economic growth across eastern India.

He also pointed to assembly elections in Bihar, saying the BJP secured record seats even after two decades, reflecting sustained public confidence. Modi praised Assam’s governance, adding, “The way the BJP government in Assam is dealing with infiltration, preserving our jungles, preserving our religious, cultural, and historic structures, and freeing them of encroachment, it is being widely appreciated." Speaking about his visit to Kaziranga, he said, “Visiting Assam always gives me unique happiness.”

A software engineer, Yuvraj Mehta, was killed in Greater Noida after his car hit an unmarked drainage boundary and fell into a deep water-filled ditch amid dense fog. A 20-year-old Kuki woman, gang-raped during ethnic violence in Manipur in May 2023, succumbed to injuries on January 10. She was abducted from an ATM in Imphal, taken to multiple locations, and subjected to sexual and physical assault before being rescued by an autorickshaw driver. The victim was initially treated in Manipur and later shifted to Guwahati due to the severity of her condition. Her family said she never recovered from the trauma, and no arrests have been made in the case.

India is pressing Iranian authorities to grant early consular access to the 16 Indian crew members of the detained vessel MT Valiant Roar. The embassy has repeatedly requested permission for the crew to communicate with their families and ensured legal representation and emergency supplies.
