India-Canada Row Highlights: India on Thursday suspended new visas for Canadians and asked Ottawa to reduce its diplomatic presence in the country, sharply escalating a spat triggered by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's accusations linking New Delhi to a Sikh separatist's murder. The Indian foreign ministry said Canada has not shared any specific information in connection with the allegations Trudeau made and that New Delhi was willing to look at it if provided.
The Canadian PM said on Thursday that India is an extremely important country and it is necessary to work together globally without any problems. But he also emphasised the importance of protecting Canada and its people and hence he sought help from the government of India to resolve the issue and provide justice.
Canadian PM Justin Trudeau said that he had a direct and frank conversation with PM Modi sharing his concerns in clear terms.
"We call upon the government of India to take seriously this matter and to work with us to shed full transparency and ensure accountability and justice in this matter. We are a country of the rule of law. We are going to continue to do the work necessary to keep Canadians safe and to uphold our values and the international rules-based order. That's our focus right now," he added.
During his press conference addressing the India-Canada issue, Canadian PM Justin Trudeau said, "As a country of the rule of the law, we have an obligation to ensure that those processes unfold in a rigorous and independent manner and that is what we are ensuing and we stand for international based order. We are highlighting how unacceptable it would be for any country to be involved in the killing of a citizen on their home soil..."
In light of its high cost, the Electric Vehicles Policy 2.0, according to Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot, will try to encourage car retrofitting.
