Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is lodged in Tihar Jail, is reportedly surrounded by an underworld don, a terrorist, and a gangster.
As his immediate neighbours in Tihar’s Jail No. 2, the AAP chief has Don Chhota Rajan, gangster Neeraj Bawana and terrorist Ziaur Rehman, according to media reports. Kejriwal has been lodged in a small cell measuring 14*8 feet. He was sent to judicial custody for two weeks in the Delhi liquor policy case.
Chhota Rajan was once a close aide of underworld Dawood Ibrahim before becoming his rival. Neeraj Bawana has more than 40 cases of murder, attempt to murder, and extortion filed against him while Ziaur Rehman is an alleged Indian Mujahideen (IM) operative.
Kejriwal's former deputy Manish Sisodia is lodged in jail number one while BRS leader K Kavitha is in jail number 6 of the women's section. The AAP chief, a diabetic, is being served home-cooked food. He was reportedly given a mattress, blankets and two pillows.
The Delhi High Court will hear on April 3 Kejriwal’s petition challenging his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
In his plea, Arvind Kejriwal has challenged his custody and sought interim relief. The matter is listed before Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma.
Meanwhile, the ED told the Delhi High Court that Kejriwal was the "kingpin" and the "key conspirator" of the "excise scam".
The probe agency opposed the AAP chief’s petition challenging his arrest. According to the probe agency, Kejriwal was given multiple opportunities to cooperate with their investigation through nine summonses, which he “intentionally disobeyed”. The ED also claimed that the AAP was a major beneficiary of the proceeds of crime from the Delhi liquor case, with approximately Rs. 45 crore of these funds allegedly used in the AAP's election campaign for the Goa Assembly elections in 2022.
