An IndiGo Airlines flight operating from Delhi to Bagdogra was forced to make an emergency landing in Lucknow on Sunday after a bomb threat was detected onboard, police said.

According to ACP Rajneesh Verma, a message claiming there was a bomb on the aircraft was found written on a tissue paper inside one of the plane’s toilets. The threat was discovered while the flight, numbered 6E-6650, was en route from Delhi to Bagdogra.

The aircraft landed safely at Lucknow airport at around 9:17 am. ACP Verma said the flight was carrying 230 passengers, including 222 adults and eight infants, along with two pilots and five cabin crew members.

Following the landing, the plane was immediately moved to the isolation bay and secured by security personnel. Teams from the bomb disposal squad and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) began a thorough inspection of the aircraft, police said.

All passengers were safely evacuated and screened, while a comprehensive search of the aircraft and the surrounding area was carried out at the airport.

Authorities received information about the bomb threat at around 8:46 am on January 18, 2026, after air traffic control alerted them to the message found onboard, ACP Verma said. The aircraft is currently being searched, and further investigation into the threat is underway.
