The Indian Army’s Gajraj Corps has put into operation an indigenously developed mono rail system at an altitude of 16,000 feet in the Kameng Himalayas of Arunachal Pradesh, marking a significant leap in sustaining logistics in some of India’s toughest high-altitude terrain.
According to defence spokesperson Lt Col Mahendra Rawat, the system has been fully conceptualised, engineered, and deployed by the Army to overcome the persistent challenges of maintaining supply lines in a region where snow, steep cliffs, and volatile weather frequently isolate forward posts.
Designed to ferry more than 300 kg of load in a single run, the mono rail provides a dependable supply route for remote locations that have no alternate means of transportation. It enables the smooth movement of critical stores—including ammunition, rations, fuel, and engineering equipment—across treacherous gradients where conventional transport options often fail.

Lt Col Rawat said the system is capable of operating round the clock, even during adverse weather, and can function without an escort. Beyond logistics, it has also shown promise for rapid casualty evacuation in areas where helicopter access is restricted and foot evacuation poses serious risks.
Gajraj Corps in a post while sharing the video and the images on X wrote,"In a remarkable display of innovation at 16,000 ft, #GajrajCorps has successfully improvised and developed an in-house High Altitude Mono Rail System to enhance operational capability in high-altitude areas. This improvised logistics solution will boost operational logistics, transportation of operational essentials facilitating efficient logistics over an extremely rugged and challenging high altitude terrain — a true testament to innovation and adaptability in challenging conditions."
Calling the initiative a testament to the innovation and adaptability of the Gajraj Corps, he said the system boosts operational readiness, reinforces sustainability at isolated posts, and reflects the Army’s focus on practical, terrain-specific solutions in extreme environments.
