The Indian Air Force has categorically denied claims that it targeted Pakistan’s Kirana Hills—an alleged nuclear weapons storage site—in its recent retaliatory strikes. “We have not hit Kirana Hills, whatever is there,” said Indian Air Force’s Director General of Air Operations Air Marshal AK Bharti while responding to media queries.

However, the very mention of Kirana Hills in the context of the recent India-Pakistan conflict has reignited interest in one of Pakistan’s most secretive military facilities, often likened to America’s infamous Area 51. India’s attack on 11 of Pakistan’s airbases on May 10 led to the destruction of 20% of Pakistan’s air force assets, with over 50 individuals, including a squadron leader, killed, according to News18.

The strikes targeted major ammunition depots and key airbases such as Sargodha and Bholari, where F-16 and JF-17 fighter jets were stationed. As a result, nearly 20% of Pakistan’s air force infrastructure was destroyed. Among those killed in the attack on Bholari airbase were Squadron Leader Usman Yusuf and four airmen. Read more

Senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram on Tuesday called on the government to clarify US President Donald Trump’s claim that he intervened to stop military escalation between India and Pakistan and averted a potential nuclear conflict. Calling Trump’s statements “very intriguing,” Chidambaram questioned whether they were based on facts or mere self-promotion. He also dismissed Trump’s involvement as that of an “uninvited guest” in India-Pakistan affairs. Chidambaram urged the Centre to convene an all-party meeting and a session of Parliament to address the opposition’s concerns and provide transparency.

Schools in Jammu, Rajouri, Poonch, and Samba districts will remain closed on Wednesday as a precautionary measure. However, educational institutions in Udhampur and the Bani and Basholi areas will reopen and resume normal operations.

Normalcy gradually returns to J&K border villages after hostilities

Following days of heightened cross-border tensions, a gradual return to normal life is underway in villages along the Line of Control and the international border with Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir. Residents who had evacuated to safer locations are now making their way back, resuming their daily activities and farming

India has declared a Pakistani diplomat stationed at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi as persona non grata for indulging in activities not in keeping with his official status in India. The official has been ordered to leave the country within 24 hours. A formal demarche was issued to the Charge d’Affaires of the Pakistan High Commission in this regard.

As tensions with Pakistan escalated to a war-like situation, India demonstrated its powerful air defence capabilities by successfully intercepting and neutralising a range of aerial threats—including drones, missiles, and ballistic missiles—launched from across the border. Read more

Educational institutions in some districts of Punjab remained shut as a precautionary measure though there has been a semblance of normalcy in the some border areas of the state in the past two days. PRTI reported that schools in five border districts of Punjab -- Amritsar, Pathankot, Fazilka, Ferozepur and Tarn Taran -- remained closed on Tuesday as a precautionary measure, said officials.

However, schools in Gurdaspur, which is Punjab's sixth border district, and Sangrur and Barnala reopened on Tuesday and classes will begin in schools in Amritsar and Tarn Taran Wednesday.

The Customs department here has seized a Pakistani artist's painting, which was imported via London, officials said on Tuesday. The painting was detected during the routine screening of goods at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport here, they said.

"A painting was detected during the regular screening earlier this month. Upon thorough examination, it was noticed that it was made by a Pakistani artist and routed to India via London," a senior customs official told PTI.

The art work is declared worth Rs 5.5 lakh, the official said, adding that the customs department has decided to confiscate it.

The move comes after India on May 2, 2025 banned "direct or indirect import or transit of all goods originating in or exported from Pakistan..." through a notification issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) in the wake of last month's Pahalgam terror attack.

Union minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday said Pakistan will cease to exist on the world map if it resorts to any misadventure against India.

PTI reported that Chouhan hailed 'Operation Sindoor', India's military response to the Pahalgam terror attack wherein 26 people were killed.

"Today, everyone should salute the Indian Army, their valour, bravery and accurate aim and the precise strategy of PM Modi. By completely destroying the training bases of terrorists who wiped off 'sindoor' of our daughters, India has shown to the world that we will not mess with anyone, but if someone messes with us, we will not spare them," he said.

Former Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla said, "Prime Minister Modi’s address to the nation last evening was very comprehensive, giving us a clear understanding of the events following the terrorist attacks in Pahalgam on April 22, including Operation Sindoor. One key takeaway was that the objective of Operation Sindoor was to specifically target terrorists and their infrastructure. In that regard, we have been very successful, having carried out precise strikes on the headquarters of two terrorist groups listed by the United Nations."

MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, "Over the last two years or so, we have been sharing information with the United Nations Security Council and the monitoring team of the Sanctions Committee as to why the terrorist The Resistance Front (TRF), which is the front for Lashkar-e-Taiba, should should be listed as a terrorist entity. We will be also in few days time sharing more details in this regard. Hopefully Security Council 1267 monitoring team will take strong note of what we present, what we file and take due action against what is required."

Former Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla said Prime Minister Modi has reaffirmed India’s long-standing position against third-party mediation in matters concerning Pakistan. Talking to PTI, he said, “The Prime Minister has reinforced India’s traditional position that there is no room for third-party mediation or any intermediary role in an issue that is, at best, bilateral—if not entirely internal to India. Any issues between India and Pakistan must be dealt bilaterally; we do not require international intermediation."

He added, "Of course, we maintain close contact with our global friends and partners... But unless Pakistan takes credible steps to dismantle its terror infrastructure and stops using terrorism as an instrument of foreign policy, there can be no talks or engagement of any kind.”

MEA spokesperson said, "Only issue with Islamabad on Kashmir is return of illegally-occupied territories to India by Pakistan."

A top officer of the Indian military on Tuesday briefed defence attaches or their representatives from a large number of countries on the "successful conduct of Operation Sindoor", officials said. PTI reported that the briefing held at Manekshaw Centre in Delhi Cantonment, was done by Lt Gen D S Rana, Director General, Defence Intelligence Agency, and lasted about 30 minutes.

Defence attaches of several major countries who are part of many international groupings, as also of several Islamic countries attended the briefing, sources said. Defence attaches from Sweden, Nepal, the Philippines, Egypt, among other countries, also attended it.

MEA spokesperson said, "I also draw your attention to the UN Security Council press statement of 25 April which states that 'the need to hold perpetrators, organizers, financiers and sponsors of this reprehensible act of terrorism accountable and bring them to justice'. They stressed that those responsible for these killings should be held accountable.”

MEA spokesperson said, "There is widespread understanding in the world that Indian tourists were the victims of terrorism at Pahalgam and that the epicentre of terrorism is across the border in Pakistan. A number of foreign leaders in their conversations with Indian counterparts recognized India’s right to defend itself and protect its people."

MEA spokesperson said, "As you know, India has a firm stance that it will not give in to nuclear blackmail or allow cross-border terrorism to be conducted invoking it. In conversations with various countries, we also cautioned that their subscribing to such scenarios could hurt them in their own region."

MEA spokesperson said, "The military action was entirely in the conventional domain. There were some reports that Pakistan’s National Command Authority will meet on 10 May. But this was later denied by them. Pakistan FM has himself denied the nuclear angle on record."

MEA spokesperson said, "By the way you all know that satellite pictures are available commercially. I urge you to look at the sites which Pakistan claims to have attacked. Contrast it with the places which we successfully targeted and destroyed. That will give you a clear picture."

MEA spokesperson said, "In essence, India’s position remained the same; Pakistan’s position changed on 10th May morning after its airbases were effectively put out of action. All you have to do is look at who called who to negotiate the terms of the cessation of firing.

MEA spokesperson said, "Where India is concerned, our stand was clear and consistent from the start. We would target terrorist infrastructure operating out of Pakistan. If the Pakistani military stayed out, there would be no problem. If they fired on us, we would respond suitably. Till the night of 9th May, Pakistan was threatening India with a massive assault. Once their attempt failed on 10th May morning and received a devastating Indian counter-response, their tune changed and their DGMO eventually reached out to us."

MEA spokesperson said, "In the last week, as a result of Operation Sindoor, Pakistan has seen its terrorism centres in Bahawalpur, Muridke, Muzaffarabad and other places destroyed. Thereafter, its military capabilities were significantly degraded by us and key airbases effectively put out of action. If the Pakistani FM wishes to project these as achievements, he is welcome to do so."

MEA spokesperson said, "The terrorist infrastructure sites that India destroyed were responsible not only for the deaths of Indians but of many other innocents around the world. There is now a new normal. The sooner Pakistan gets used to it, the better."

MEA spokesperson said, "From the time Operation Sindoor commenced on 07 May till the understanding on cessation of firing and military action on 10 May, there were conversations between Indian and US leaders on the evolving military situation. The issue of trade did not come up in any of these discussions."

MEA spokesperson said, "As you are aware, the outstanding matter is the vacation of illegally occupied Indian territory by Pakistan. All issues relating to the Jammu and Kashmir area are bilateral issues between India and Pakistan and there is no change in India's policy."

MEA spokesperson said, "The Indus Water Treaty (IWT) was concluded in the spirit of goodwill and friendship as specified in the preamble of the treaty. However, Pakistan has held these principles in abeyance by its promotion of cross-border terrorism for decades. Now as per CCS decision of 23 April, India will keep the Treaty in abeyance until Pakistan credibly and irrevocably abjures its support for cross-border terrorism. Please also note that climate change, demographic shifts and technological changes have created new realities on the ground."

Pakistan could never imagine that our Air Force would enter so deep inside Pakistan, but this is the new India. This will enter and attack."

Pakistan has said that 11 military personnel, including a squadron leader, were killed and 78 others injured during the recent military confrontation with India. In a statement, the Pakistan military also claimed that 40 civilians died and 121 others were injured in the attacks by India on the night of May 6-7.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said that the ceasefire between India and Pakistan must remain intact as people on the border want to live in peace. "We all want the ceasefire to remain intact. The people living near the borders or the LoC, and those who saw the situation in Jammu and Srinagar, they want a ceasefire. It is a good thing. This ceasefire should remain intact," Abdullah told PTI in the Tangdhar area of Kupwara district.
