The National Conference-Congress alliance looks poised to return to power in Jammu and Kashmir and form the first government of the Union Territory since the abrogation of Article 370. The BJP, which was part of the previous alliance government with PDP, gave a spirited fight to the alliance but will fall short of the numbers, trends show.
According to trends, BJP is currently ahead in 29 seats, all of which are in Jammu. If the trends hold, BJP will post its best-ever performance in the Jammu region. In comparison, its national rival Congress is poised to win around 6 states in the UT.
Despite falling short of the seats, BJP is set to win the highest vote share in the Union Territory.
According to current Election Commission trends, BJP is likely to get 25.85% of the votes while National Conference will get around 23.3% of the votes.
BJP's vote share is almost twice that of Congress's 11.95%.
Even in the 2014 assembly elections in J&K, BJP recorded the highest vote share in J&K at 22.98%.
Meanwhile, the NC-Congress alliance is poised to return to power after a gap of 10 years. In 2014, the PDP and BJP joined hands to form an alliance government in the erstwhile state, ending the eight year rule of NC-Congress alliance.
