A gas leak from a chemical company in Maharashtra’s Ambernath, Thane district, spread across the city on Thursday evening, creating panic among residents.

According to reports, the chemical fumes have spread across the entire city, lowering visibility and causing irritation to eyes and throat. Visuals of foggy roads have been circulating on social media following the leak. The incident reportedly occurred during a routine venting operation at the company, officials from the Ambernath Fire Brigade told Economic Times.

According to NDTV, the gas has even reached the railway tracks, ruling out the possibility of residents skipping town in case of an emergency.

The cause of the leak is still unknown and further details are awaited.
