Supreme Court News updates: Supreme Court grants interim bail to Mahesh Langa, orders day-to-day trial

The Supreme Court today granted interim bail to senior journalist Mahesh Langa of The Hindu in a money laundering case involving alleged fraud of about Rs 7 crore, registered by the Enforcement Directorate under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

While granting relief, the apex court directed the special PMLA court in Ahmedabad to conduct the trial on a day-to-day basis and complete the examination of all nine witnesses without granting adjournments merely because a petition seeking quashing of the proceedings is pending before the High Court. The court noted that no stay has been granted by the High Court in the matter.

The Supreme Court clarified that Langa would be free to raise all legally permissible defences before the trial court during the course of the proceedings.
