Stung by its poor performance in the recently concluded Bihar Assembly election, the Congress has initiated disciplinary action against 43 party leaders in the state for alleged anti-party activities and indiscipline, reported the New Indian Express.
The Congress managed to win only six of the 61 seats it contested in the election, prompting an internal review of the reasons behind the setback.
Most of the leaders facing action are those who had openly revolted against the party’s state leadership, including Bihar Congress president Rajesh Ram and AICC in-charge for the state, Krishna Allavaru. Several of them had also accused the leadership of distributing tickets in exchange for money.
Following the declaration of results on November 14, Rajesh Ram constituted a state-level disciplinary committee within two days. The committee, headed by senior leader Kapil Dev Prasad Yadav, has so far expelled seven leaders from the party. Show-cause notices have been issued to 36 others.
Those expelled include former Bihar Congress vice-presidents Rajkumar Rajan and Shakeelur Rahman, as well as Banka district Congress chief Kanchana Singh.
In addition, the names of six of the 43 leaders have been forwarded to the All India Congress Committee’s disciplinary action committee for further consideration and possible action.
