The Kimberley Process (KP) Plenary has selected India to assume the chairpersonship of the Kimberley Process from January 1, 2026.

The Kimberley Process is a tripartite initiative involving governments, the international diamond industry and civil society, aimed at preventing the trade in “conflict diamonds”—rough diamonds used by rebel groups or their allies to finance conflicts that undermine legitimate governments, as defined in United Nations Security Council resolutions, according to the Ministry of Commerce & Industry.

Navi Mumbai International Airport commenced its airside operations on December 25, 2025, with the arrival of its first commercial flight. The aircraft was accorded a ceremonial water cannon salute on arrival.

The inaugural arrival, IndiGo flight 6E460 from Bengaluru, touched down at 08:00 hrs and was welcomed with the traditional water salute. This was followed by the airport’s first departure IndiGo flight 6E882 to Hyderabad, which took off at 08:40 hrs, completing NMIA’s inaugural arrival and departure cycle.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday extended greetings for Christmas and said, "Wishing everyone a joyous Christmas filled with peace, compassion and hope. May the teachings of Jesus Christ strengthen harmony in our society."

A passenger, Sunil Bajaj, says, "It feels very good that an international airport has come to Navi Mumbai... The driveway is beautiful and big... It will be futuristic."
