In a stark warning to Pakistan, India has decided that any future "act of terror" will be considered an "act of war" against country and will be responded accordingly, top government sources said on Saturday.
With this decision, the government headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeks to draw red lines against terror incidents and makes clear its intention to firmly respond to the perpetrators and conspirators, in what is seen as a message to Pakistan -- a country linked to various terrorist groups involved in targeting Indians.
This decision comes amid intensified conflict with India as armed forces continue to respond proportionately and adequately to Pakistani attempts to target Indian installations.
Meanwhile, PM Modi met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, the three service chiefs and Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan to review the security scenario and chalk out strategies for the future course of action.
Pakistan's military is moving its troops in the forward areas, India said on Saturday, as the two countries continued to attack each other's military facilities.
Earlier, the MEA in its media briefing said that on the intervening night of May 9 and 10, the Indian Armed Forces "carried out precision attacks only on identified military targets. These included technical infrastructure, command and control centres, radar sites and weapon storage areas."
India responded to the Pakistani military's "provocative" and "escalatory" actions in a measured way and Islamabad is resorting to a wanton campaign of targeting innocent people and civilian infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said.
The attack by Indian forces came amid continued missile and drone attacks by Pakistan, in failed attempts to target military installations and religious places across Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab and Rajasthan.
Misri said at a media briefing here that Pakistan's claims of destroying various places and military installations in India are "completely false".
