Air India is set to partially restore its international flight schedule that was temporarily reduced for “safety checks” following the tragic accident of Air India’s London-bound flight 171 from Ahmedabad on June 12.
The airline will resume some of the flights starting from August 1, while full-restoration is planned for October 1, a statement said.
The company said the pause helped the airline conduct additional precautionary checks on its Boeing 787 aircraft. "That Pause enabled Air India to perform additional precautionary checks on its Boeing 787 aircraft as well as accommodating longer flying times arising from airspace closures over Pakistan and the Middle East," the airline said.
The Tata group-owned airline will resume thrice-weekly flights between Ahmedabad and London Heathrow from August 1 to September 30. This will replace the currently operating five-times-a-week flights between Ahmedabad and London (Gatwick), the statement said.
The airline said it will remove some of the initially planned services between August 1 and September 30 from the schedule as it implements a phase-wise restoration of flights. The affected passengers will be offered alternate flight options or full refund, the statement said.
Following the partial restoration, Air India will operate more than 525 international flights per week on 63 short, long and ultra long-haul routes, it said.
A Boeing 787 Dreamliner bound for London from the Indian city of Ahmedabad began to lose thrust and crashed shortly after takeoff on June 12. All but one of the 242 people on board and 19 others on the ground were killed.
