Right. 4 teams confirmed for the playoffs. But 7 matches still left for the league stage! Are those all dead rubbers? Definitely not. The top 4 teams are confirmed but the order is not confirmed yet. Any of the current top 3 - Gujarat, Bengaluru and Punjab can finish in the top 2 and with some luck, Mumbai could also find themselves in a race for the top 2, if they win their final league game as well and end with 18 points. Thursday, 22nd May, 2025, sees a clash between Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants in Ahmedabad. The table toppers will look to extend their lead at the top. The first ball will be bowled at 7.30 pm IST (1400 GMT) but our buildup will begin well in advance. It is now raining torrentially in Mumbai and we thank the rain gods for patiently waiting till this game got over! Do tune in early from a drier Ahmedabad for all the action from the GT-LSG game. ADIOS! TAKE CARE!
The champions do it again. They were in a bit of a slumber for the last 4 years, but come 2025, they have come out with a bang and have not only qualified for the playoffs, but are in good contention to go all the way as well. They play their next and last league game against Punjab Kings in Jaipur, on Monday, 26th May, 2025, but if a couple of games go their way, wherein, the top sides lose matches, MI might be in a terrific shape to finish in the top 2 as well. As far as Delhi Capitals are concerned, their season ends on a sad note, having won 5 out of their first 6 matches. They have one final game to go, also against the Punjab Kings in Jaipur, on Saturday, 24th May, 2025. They will try and end the season with 7 wins for the season.
Mumbai Indians' SURYAKUMAR YADAV HAS BEEN ADJUDGED THE PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his swashbuckling unbeaten 73 (43). On being asked as to why did he say at the innings break that he wanted to play this type of innings, Surya says that it has been 13 games now that he got this award and on the morning of the match, his wife told him that he has got all the awards except Player Of The Match this season. So, he feels that this award is really special for him, not only from the team's point of view but even personally and is really looking forward to celebrate this with his wife. On his strategy to attack, SKY says that in this game, it was really important for a single batter to bat till the end. Adds that the batters knew that there was a big over of 15-20 runs somewhere and credits Naman Dhir for coming out and sharing his vibrant energy. On the relief of making it to the playoffs with a game to go, Suryakumar Yadav says that he is absolutely happy and is looking for some good rest before MI's final league game.
The rain keeps getting heavier and we are now set to wrap the presentation up quickly. The victorious skipper of Mumbai Indians, HARDIK PANDYA, rushes in for a quick mini chat. On being asked whether it is fun captaining Jasprit Bumrah and Mitchell Santner, Hardik terms it absolutely, citing that he can throw them the ball at any time, which makes his job pretty easy. On whether the team was worried in the first innings with their score at 132/5, Pandya says that Mumbai were looking at 160 but the way Naman Dhir came out and played, it was outstanding.
... THE PRESENTATION ...
Mumbai Indians' MITCHELL SANTNER is up for a chat with the broadcasters now. Says that the wicket was slightly slow with the red soil. Adds that the more you flight on such a wicket, you get more revolutions and that's all he did. Further says that he tried to bowl stump to stump and kept it straighter. Feels that as a unit, it was a riot with the ball but it was set up by the 180 from the batters. On the team growing from strength to strength, Santner says that they have shown that in the last few games that the guys upfront can swing the ball and it is nice to have Jasprit Bumrah at the back end. Feels that in this game, Mumbai adapted pretty quickly, learning from the Delhi boys and tried to bowl more cutters. On his preference to take wickets or be economical, Mitchell says that he always loves to pick up wickets but in this game, he just stuck to bowl wicket to wicket.
The skipper of Delhi Capitals for the day, FAF DU PLESSIS, says that Delhi were excellent in the field, with the players fighting hard. Cheekily adds that it was not the easiest pitch to bat on, so the job was easier for the bowlers but admits that a little slip in the last 2 overs lost all the momentum they had garnered. Gives full marks to MI batters for counter-punching. On this particular match, missing Axar Patel and Mitchell Starc, du Plessis says that he felt it was a case of David vs Goliath but also says that he enjoys such contests. Credits Mumbai Indians for playing superbly. Admits that when you play a powerful team like this, you need your best players around and adds that the Capitals fought hard for 18 overs but post that, were pretty average. Summarizes his team's performance as inconsistent, detailing that the batting and bowling have not been consistent and to be in the top 4, they cannot afford that. Again, on the topic of missing players, Faf says that the team definitely missed Axar on a wicket like that. Calls him a similar bowler to Mitchell Santner and is a brilliant left-arm bowler. Feels unfortunate for him as Axar turned out very sick in the last two days. Adds that the team missed Starc too, but on this wicket, an extra spinner was desired. On the loss of momentum by DC in this season, FdP says that he is a big believer that you should never take the game for granted. Adds that when you play well, everything keeps falling your way. But feels that in the last few games, Delhi could not be consistent enough and let the momentum earned in the first half slip away pretty quickly.
The Mumbai Indians squad is jogging across the ground, thanking the Wankhede crowd for its support. What a phenomenal home season - 7 matches, 5 wins. After toiling hard for 4 years, they finally seem to have found their perfect combination, going from strength to strength. This game was a perfect case for them - they were put under pressure but they responded well. And these are the games you need before entering the playoffs, so that you are ready for all types of challenges. This match saw a different Suryakumar Yadav with the bat - 40 (32) at one stage, exploding to 73 (43) towards the end. They were languishing at 132/5 after 18 overs but hammered 48 in the last 2 overs. Delhi, who had done so well till that point, just got blown away by MI's might.
Terrific bowling performance from Mumbai Indians to say the least. In hindsight, it was a good toss to lose. With so much humidity around, there was bound to be dew and there was the forecast of rain as well. But the wicket which was dished out was one which supported batting first, as it was a bit inconsistent. Cutters were the most used on this surface and MI just took a leaf out of DC's book. They hunted in a pack and even though Mitchell Santner and Jasprit Bumrah shared 3 wickets apiece, each and every bowler barring Karn Sharma put pressure on the opposition.
160 was supposed to be competitive on this deck. MI got 180 - that's 20 extra runs. Those extra runs gave enough confidence to their bowlers and put too much pressure on the Capitals. They never got going, losing wickets from the second over and the rut barely stopped. There was a brief partnership for the 6th wicket between Sameer Rizvi and Ashutosh Sharma, but that just delayed the inevitable. Even that would not have been possible, had it not been for a couple of dropped catches by Mumbai, both of Rizvi. Overall, a pretty feeble batting effort.
Third biggest win of IPL 2025, batting first. Two of those belong to MI itself. They registered the biggest win of the tournament beating RR by 100 runs in Jaipur and in this game, have pulled up their second biggest win of the season. It was really a no contest in the end but it was not so for the first 18 overs of the contest. Sad end for the Capitals from the tournament, as they are knocked out with a game to go.
18.2OUT! BOWLED! Neck and crop. Bumrah finishes things off in style. Mustafizur Rahman backs away to the leg side and exposes all his three stumps. Too easy for Boom Boom. He targets the stumps like a hunter and shoots his arrow. Bang. Yorker at the base of the stumps and the sticks are shattered. Delhi Capitals are bowled out for 121 and MUMBAI INDIANS WIN BY 59 RUNS, QUALIFYING FOR THE PLAYOFFS OF IPL 2025!
18.1On middle, Dushmantha Chameera swings hard but only manages a miscue towards long on. Does not carry and the batters take a single.
Mustafizur Rahman is the last batter, replacing Kuldeep Yadav. Jasprit Bumrah is back on as well. 3-0-11-2 so far.
17.6OUT! CAUGHT! And Karn does manage to improve his figures. Flights this one up in the air and Kuldeep Yadav is enticed to come down the track again. Is nowhere near the pitch of the ball and ends up skying this miles in the air. Substitute Raj Angad Bawa covers good ground from the long on ropes and charges in to take the catch in between the mid on and long on regions. Kuldeep departs for 7 (8) and Delhi Capitals have slipped from 103/5 to 120/9. Equation - 61 from 12.
17.5Outside off, Dushmantha Chameera gets down and mows the slog sweep through mid-wicket for one.
17.4Jumps out again and this time, Karn slows down the pace and keeps the length short. Yadav manages to flick the ball through mid-wicket for a run.
17.3Dropped short, around middle, Kuldeep stays back this time and pulls it to deep mid-wicket for a couple.
17.2Full, around middle, Kuldeep Yadav jumps down the track and hammers it straight back to the bowler.
17.1Karn Sharma to try and improve his figures now. A short ball, pulled to deep square leg for a single.
16.6Backs away and steers this through the covers for a couple. Boult finishes with figures of 4-0-29-1.
16.5Boult switches to around the wicket and keeps it full and around middle, Chameera chips it over the bowler, and the ball lands in front of long on. Single taken.
16.4A good slower-ball bouncer, on middle and leg, Dushmantha Chameera goes for the pull but is beaten for pace.
16.3Around off, Kuldeep Yadav stays leg side of the ball and flays it through the covers for a single. 69 more needed from 21 balls.
16.2On middle, hint of swing back in, chipped over mid off for a single.
16.1Yorker, around middle, dug out back to the bowler.
At 6.7, Bumrah has the best economy in IPL 2025 (Min. 30 overs bowled). That was before this game. In this one, his economy reads under 4. Trent Boult to bowl out. 3-0-24-1 so far.
15.6Jumps down the track and is met with a length ball at the body, Kuldeep fends it towards short mid-wicket. 5 runs and a wicket from the over, Jasprit Bumrah's bowling figures read 3-0-11-2.
15.5Slower yorker, outside off, Dushmantha Chameera watches it till the end and pushes it towards point for a run.
15.4Outside off, stabbed to the off side for a single.
STRATEGIC TIMEOUT. A totally one-sided game. DC just waiting for this game to end. MI have been just too strong for them and the Capitals have just not found any batting support in this game. Unfortunately for them, in a critical game, the in-form Rahul and Stubbs have missed out and the batting order cuts a sorry picture. It is just about playing for pride now and whether Delhi can play out their 20 overs and try and get to 130-140, just to make the defeat margin look less of a drubbing. Kuldeep Yadav comes out to bat at number 10, replacing Madhav Tiwari.
15.3OUT! BOWLED! The perfect two-card trick by Boom Boom. He pushed the batter back with a bouncer on the previous ball and then, smartly slipped in a slower ball, keeping the length much fuller. Tiwari plays from the crease and misses it completely, getting his stumps castled. That's 100 wickets for Bumrah in the death overs (16-20) of the IPL alone! Tremendous bowler. Madhav departs for 3 (4) and from 103/5, Delhi Capitals are 108/8. Equation - 73 from 27.
15.2A short ball, around off, Madhav Tiwari pulls it over mid-wicket. He takes the single and the batters charge back for the second. Seems like Dushmantha Chameera was taking it a bit too easy at the bowler's end and just about made it in.
15.1A length ball, on middle, flicked through mid-wicket for a single.
14.6Full, on off, worked towards square leg for a really quick single. 2 runs and 2 wickets from the over, Mitchell Santner finishes with figures of 4-0-11-3!
Dushmantha Chameera walks in next at number 9, replacing Ashutosh Sharma.
14.5OUT! STUMPED! Two in the over and that should be the rubber stamp on this game, if at all there was any doubt. Santner has spun DC into a hole and out of the tournament. Flighted, around off, spinning away, Ashutosh Sharma lunges to defend but is beaten by the away spin. Once again, keeper Ryan Rickelton shows excellent guile to collect and whip the bails off in a flash and this time, there is no need for the third umpire. Ashutosh departs for 18 (16) and Santner has his third. Delhi Capitals slip from 103/5 to 104/7. Equation - 77 from 31.
14.4Outside off, punched down to long on for a single.
14.3Outside off, Tiwari lunges to defend but the ball pitches and then spins past the outside edge.
Madhav Tiwari walks in next at number 8, replacing Sameer Rizvi.
14.2OUT! BOWLED! Santner magic revives the Wankhede again! He gets his second wicket. Slows this up through the air and keeps the ball in line of the stumps, Rizvi gets down and attempts a massive mow, but misses the ball completely. The ball dips onto the batter, spins away and hits the stumps. Rizvi departs for 39 (35) and Delhi Capitals are 103/6 after 14.2 overs. A decent 38-run stand has been broken. Equation - 78 from 34.
14.1Mitchell Santner to bowl out. Follows the batter down the leg side, Sameer Rizvi comes forward and looks to swing it away but only gets a thick inside edge onto his pads.
13.6On middle and leg, pulled towards deep square leg for a run.
13.5Very full, on middle, chipped over the bowler down the ground towards long off for a run.
13.4On middle, bunted down to long on for a single.
Oopss.. the heavens are opening up, it seems. There is a drizzle around the Wankhede, which is getting heavier by the moment.
13.3Comes down the track but ends up yorking the ball back to the bowler.
13.2FOUR! CLUBBED! A short ball, around off, Sameer Rizvi slaps the pull through mid-wicket. The fielder in the deep races to his left and puts in a dive but cannot stop the ball. 100 UP FOR DELHI CAPITALS. 81 more needed from 40 balls.
13.1Trent Boult has been given the ball now. Slants this ball into the right-hander, Ashutosh Sharma stays leg side of the ball and punches it through the covers for a single.
12.6FOUR! When you slash, slash hard. A length ball, outside off, Rizvi throws his bat at it but he is in no control. Gets a thick outside edge which flies through the vacant slip cordon to the deep third fence. 11 from the over.
12.5Outside off, Rizvi jumps out and slaps the ball straight to cover.
12.4FOUR! A genuine half volley on middle, Sameer Rizvi flicks it through mid-wicket and finds the boundary.
12.3Outside off, punched back to the bowler.
12.2Outside off, punched towards long off for a single.
12.1Excellent effort from Naman Dhir. Outside off, slower ball, Ashutosh Sharma punches it through the covers. Dhir covers good ground from sweeper cover and literally sweeps the portion, pushing the ball away. Keeps the batters to a couple.
MI is the only team to have 4 pace bowlers to have picked up more than 10 wickets in IPL 2025. Deepak Chahar returns. 2-0-11-1 so far.
11.6On middle, Rizvi looks to whip it through the leg side but gets a thick inside edge onto his pads.
11.5DROPPED! Tough chance. Full, around middle, Sameer Rizvi hammers it straight back. Mitchell Santner has just about enough time to stick out his left hand, but unfortunately for him, the ball does not stick and drops down.
11.4Outside off, punched through the covers for a single.
11.3Almost similar to the Abishek Porel stumping! Flighted, outside off, Ashutosh comes forward to drive but is beaten in flight. The ball dips, lands and then turns away from the bat while keeper Ryan Rickelton exhibits another superb piece of keeping, whipping the bails off. The stumping appeal is referred upstairs and this one is pretty close as well, but this time, the third umpire deems that when the bails are dislodged, the foot is down.
11.2Outside off, Ashutosh Sharma pushes it towards point. Rizvi keeps on running and just turns back in the nick of time.
11.1On middle, worked through mid-wicket for a single.
10.6SIX! Clean as a whistle and we have 16 runs from the over. Karn Sharma has gone for 26 in his 2 overs. Tossed up, outside off, Ashutosh Sharma gets under the ball and sends it sailing over long off!
10.5On middle and leg, helped behind square leg for a single.
10.4CATCH MISSED, FOUR! Complete misjudgement from Will Jacks. Floated, around off, Sameer Rizvi looks to play the slog sweep but is nowhere near the pitch of the ball. Gets a leading edge which goes high in the air towards long off. Jacks comes running in, but then realizes that he has to jog back. He trots back and tries to catch it over his head, but just misses the ball. It slips between his hands and lands just inside the ropes and goes beyond.
10.3Outside off, punched through the covers for a single.
10.2FOUR! CLOBBERED! Floated, around middle and leg, Ashutosh Sharma jumps down the track and hammers it to the right of long on.
10.1Landed outside leg, Ashutosh Sharma looks to play straight but misses the ball, getting hit on the pads, Ryan Rickelton appeals for LBW but without much interest.
Jasprit Bumrah has really been a gamechanger for the Mumbai outfit. He is also in some really good form and picked up at least one wicket in each of the last 5 matches, also being economical.
9.6A short ball, but down the leg side, helped towards long leg for a single, which is the only run in the over, to go with the wicket.
9.5Slower ball, on a length, outside off, defended towards cover.
9.4A good bouncer, around middle, Ashutosh Sharma arches back and attempts an upper cut, as an afterthought and misses.
9.3A short ball, around off, worked towards short mid-wicket.
Ashutosh Sharma walks in next at number 7, replacing Tristan Stubbs.
9.2OUT! LBW! Stubbs has reviewed but that looks dead. And that is confirmed by technology as well. Full and straight, Tristan Stubbs does the cardinal sin of playing across the line and doubles it up by missing the ball. He is pinned right in front of the stumps and the umpire barely takes a while to raise his finger. Stubbs understandably takes the review, but UltraEdge detects nothing when the ball is near the bat. UltraEdge squashes any further hope of saving the review or the batter as the ball is projected to be crashing into leg stump. Review gone, batter gone. Stubbs departs for 2 (4) and Delhi Capitals are 65/5 after 9.2 overs. Equation - 116 from 64.
9.1Landed outside off, pushed behind point.
Since joining them in IPL 2024, Stubbs has been the leading run scorer for DC. Change of ends for Jasprit Bumrah. 1-0-5-0 so far.
8.6SIX! Clean hit. Floated, outside off, Sameer Rizvi gets underneath the ball and sends it sailing over long off! 10 from Karn's opener.
8.5Outside off, punched through the covers for a run.
8.4Outside off, blasted through mid off for a single.
8.3Full, around middle, Tristan Stubbs looks to defend but gets it off the inner half of the bat towards long on for one.
8.2On middle and off, worked through mid on for a run.
8.1Outside off, punched towards cover.
Tristan Stubbs walks out at number 6, replacing Vipraj Nigam. Karn Sharma to bowl as well.
7.6OUT! CAUGHT AND BOWLED! Well, who better than Santner to know how was Ryder? National mate, right? Vipraj cannot do a Ryder in this game. Just fractionally short, around off, Vipraj Nigam stays back and looks to work it through the leg side, but instead gets a leading edge which results in a simple return catch to the bowler. Mitchell Santner makes no mistake and Vipraj has to depart for 20 (11) and Delhi Capitals are 55/4 after 8 overs. Equation - 126 from 72.
7.5Full, around off, well blocked out.
7.4Landed outside off, spinning away, Vipraj Nigam pushes but misses due to the away turn.
7.3Full, on middle, flicked through mid-wicket for a single.
7.2Follows the batter down the leg side, punched back to the bowler.
7.1Full, around off, watchfully defended.
STRATEGIC TIMEOUT. Sad scenes in the DC dugout. At the toss, Faf du Plessis said that he hoped that his team would compete in this game. But 2 bad overs with the ball have cost them really big. Vipraj Nigam might have to do a Jesse Ryder here, who was famous for tormenting oppositions when he used to suffer a groin or hamstring injury. Clearly, Vipraj is unable to run and Sameer Rizvi is under pressure to score the boundaries. If Nigam can do a Ryder and just blast the bowling apart, it might help his side a touch. Else, a couple of wickets are around the corner. Impact substitution time for Mumbai Indians. KARN SHARMA IN, ROHIT SHARMA OUT.
6.6Frustrating over for Delhi Capitals. They got a boundary on the second ball of this over but could manage only a run in the next 4 balls. A full toss, down the leg side, Sameer swings it through long leg and takes the single. Turns blindly for the second but Vipraj is in no position to run. Sends him back.
6.5Another dot. On a length, around off, Rizvi works it towards short mid-wicket again.
6.4Around off, nudged towards short mid-wicket. Wants a single but seems like Vipraj is suffering from cramps and cannot run quick singles.
6.3Full, outside off, driven straight to mid off.
6.2FOUR! BRUTAL! A short ball, at the body, Sameer Rizvi swivels inside the line, uses the pace on that ball and hooks it towards long leg for a boundary. 50 UP FOR DELHI CAPITALS. 128 more needed from 82 balls.
6.1An off cutter to start, flicked straight to short mid-wicket.
In MI's last game vs GT, all wickets were picked up by their pacers. Here's Jasprit Bumrah.
5.6DROPPED! Rohit Sharma, of all the people! Full and wide outside off, Nigam throws the kitchen sink at it, targetting cover but ends up getting a big fat outside edge. The ball flies straight to Rohit at short third who takes the catch but somehow, cannot hang on! It spills down and he tries to dive and take it in the second attempt, but the ball dribbles away from him. The Powerplay ends on a sour note for Mumbai, but it has been a Powerplay to savour. Delhi Capitals are 49/3. At the same stage, MI were 54/2.
5.5Landed around middle, pushed down to long off for a run.
5.4A touch short, around off, punched towards cover.
5.3On middle, pushed towards mid on.
5.2On middle, flicked through square leg for a single.
5.1FOUR! BOSH! Fractionally short, outside off, Vipraj Nigam rocks back and heaves it over mid-wicket for a boundary!
Earlier this season, MI came out on top against DC in a thrilling match, winning by just 12 runs. Mitchell Santner to bowl the final over of the Powerplay.
4.6Sweeps it over square leg but there is protection in the deep. Just a single. A wicket but also 16 from the over, some momentum for DC.
4.5FOUR MORE! And now, the cheekiness comes out. Quicker ball, outside off, Vipraj Nigam stays back and dabs it late past the keeper, through the vacant slip region, to short third's left, for a boundary!
4.4FOUR! BOOM! Full, outside off, Vipraj gets underneath the ball and lofts it cleanly over mid off!
4.3SIX! Makes use of the Free Hit. Full and wide outside off, Vipraj Nigam reaches out and carves it over cover!
4.3NO BALL! Well, that's excellent umpiring. Nigam pushes the ball towards point and we all think it is a dot ball but the umpire sharply sees only three fielders inside the 30-yard circle! You need to have 4. That is a penalty and the next ball will be a Free Hit.
Vipraj Nigam walks in next at number 5, replacing Abishek Porel.
4.2OUT! STUMPED! These are shades of the 2020 IPL final. DC were 22/3 batting first in that game in Dubai. Here, they are 27/3. Though this decision looked a bit debatable, to be honest. No complaints about the bowling. Beautifully flighted, outside off, drawing the batter forward. Abishek Porel lunged to defend but the ball landed and spun past the outside edge. The keeper, Ryan Rickelton, collected the ball and quickly whipped off the bails, appealing for stumping joyously. The decision was referred upstairs and the replays seemed to indicate that the foot had got up in the air, but had also got back down in time, before the bails were dislodged. However, the third umpire checked a few replays before eventually ruling it in favour of the fielding side. Porel walks off shaking his head, as he too is not happy with that decision. But he has to depart for 6 (9) and Delhi Capitals are sinking at 27/3 after 4.2 overs. Equation - 154 from 94.
Stumped? MI are confident and the decision is referred upstairs. Seems like the foot is inside the crease. Or is it? The third umpire reckons that the foot is in the air when the bails are broken!
4.1Whoa! There is plenty of grip available. Jacks tosses this one up around middle and off, Abishek Porel goes back and looks to punch it through the off side but the ball holds on the surface and then bounces a bit extra. Porel is caught in no man's land and ends up spooning the ball uppishly, landing just short of cover.
Prior to this game, MI's bowling unit had picked up 30 wickets in the Powerplay, the most in IPL 2025. Its strike rate of 9.9 was also the best among all teams. Time to test the spin on this wicket. Here's Will Jacks.
3.6On middle, pushed towards short mid-wicket.
3.5FOUR! Taking it on. A short ball, at head height, around middle and off. Sameer Rizvi gets inside the line and hooks it over short fine leg. A bounce and into the ropes.
3.4Full, on the pads, Porel flicks it towards deep square leg for a single.
3.3Outside off, on a length, Porel punches this sweetly through the covers and gets a couple. 159 more needed from 99 balls.
3.2Another slow ball, around off, Abishek Porel swings hard and gets it off the inner half of the bat towards short mid-wicket.
3.1Fuller, outside off, driven towards mid off.
Boult has been in some really good form of late and picked up at least two wickets in each of the last 4 innings. He has also had an economy of below 7 in 3 out of those 4 innings.
2.6Around off, pushed towards backward point. 10/0 after 1 over, but the next 2 have gone for 10/2 combined!
2.5Outside off, a short ball, Sameer Rizvi looks to pull but then bails out.
Sameer Rizvi walks in next at number 4, replacing KL Rahul.
2.4OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! Is that the game done and dusted? Boult gets the better of Rahul. On a length, outside off, KL Rahul jumps out and has a wild swish. Only manages to get a bottom edge and the keeper, Ryan Rickelton makes no mistake. Boult flashes a giant smile and MI know how big a wicket this is. Rahul departs for 11 (6) and Delhi Capitals are 20/2 after 2.4 overs. Equation - 161 from 104.
2.3Outside off, Abishek Porel opens the face of his bat and runs this down to deep backward point for a run.
2.2Around middle, worked through mid-wicket for a single.
2.1FOUR! Not quite sure this was intended. On a length, outside off, angling away, KL Rahul looked to punch it through the off side, preferably in front of point, but instead, got an outside edge which ran behind point instead. Fell in the gap between backward point and short third and raced away.
Out of Rahul's 5 hundreds in the IPL, 3 have come against MI.
1.6On the pads, flicked behind square leg for a couple to get off the mark. Just 4 runs and a wicket from the over to start his evening, Deepak Chahar.
1.5A good bouncer to welcome the new batter, around leg stump, at head height, Abishek Porel sways away from the line.
Abishek Porel walks in next at number 3, replacing Faf du Plessis.
1.4OUT! CAUGHT! And MI get their first inside the second over. That's a bit of surprising shot given Faf du Plessis' standards. The field was pushed back, with long on in place, and for some reason, du Plessis looked to go in that direction. Perhaps, he just wanted to chip it. Or maybe, he was targetting long off. It was an off-pace delivery, a knuckle ball and he ended up playing a bit too early. Hits it straight down the throat of Mitchell Santner at long on. The skipper for this game departs for 6 (7) and Delhi Capitals are 12/1 after 1.4 overs. Equation - 169 from 110.
1.3A bit too straight, on the pads, KL Rahul works it towards deep mid-wicket for a run. 169 more needed from 111.
1.2Full, outside off, 133.8 kph, du Plessis has an ugly hack. Gets an inside edge behind square leg and takes the single. Clearly, Delhi Capitals are looking to go hard in the Powerplay.
1.1On a length, around off, coming in, Faf du Plessis works it towards short mid-wicket.
Trent Boult is the leader of MI's pace pack and has picked up the most wickets for the them this season, with 18 scalps. Here's Deepak Chahar.
0.6Outside off, on a length, Faf mistimes his punch again, this time towards mid off. Takes Hardik Pandya on and completes the single. A good pickup and throw from Hardik would have been interesting but he fumbles. 10 from the opening over of the chase.
0.5On a length, around off, cutting back in, du Plessis mistimes his punch towards cover.
0.4Outside off, punched straight to cover.
0.3FOUR! CLASSY! Fine way to get off the mark. On a length, just outside off, Faf du Plessis gets across and just caresses it through the covers. The ball threads the gap between cover and point and races to the fence.
0.2Full and closer to the off stump, swinging in, Rahul pushes it towards mid off for a single.
0.1EDGED, FOUR! Normally, Boult starts off from over the wicket but tonight, he started from around the wicket from the word go. The ball was full and wide outside off and KL Rahul threw his bat at it. Got a thick outside edge which just went to the right of short third, into the fence! 177 more needed from 119 balls.
