Zomato introduces ‘book now, sell anytime’ ticket booking feature on app

The new event ticketing feature will allow users who have purchased tickets from Zomato to sell their tickets on the app in case they cancel plans later.

Zomato has launched “book now, sell anytime” ticket-booking feature on its app, which will allow customers to purchase tickets for an event and sell them in case they don’t want to use them, the company said on August 27.

The feature will go live on the Zomato app on September 30, starting with the Zomato Feeding India Concert, which will be headlined by Dua Lipa.

“If their plans change for any reason, they can list their ticket on the Zomato app for a price lower or higher than their original purchase price (capped at 2x of the current phase price live on the ticketing platform),” Zomato Live Entertainment CEO Zeenah Vilcassim wrote in a blog post.

Once another customer purchases the listed ticket, the seller’s ticket would be cancelled. A new ticket would be issued to the customer purchasing the ticket issued and authenticated by Zomato.

“The seller will get the full value of their listed price transferred to their preferred payment method (subject to applicable taxes),” she added.

To ensure that the feature does not promote touting or unfair pricing, a customer will be allowed to buy up to 10 tickets per category, which can be listed for selling.

The highest price at which they can list their tickets will be capped at 2x of the current phase price on the Zomato app. If the tickets for the event are sold out, the cap will be 2x the final phase price.

For instance, if a customer purchases an early-bird ticket for Rs 1,000 and the current phase is live at Rs 2000, the customer can list their ticket for up to Rs 4000, Zomato said.

The announcement comes a few days after the food delivery giant said it would acquire Paytm's entertainment and ticketing business for Rs 2,048 crore, as it looks to expand its presence in the 'going-out' segment.

The cash transaction was approved by Zomato and Paytm's boards on August 21, the two companies informed the exchanges.
