As the festive season nears, India’s leading e-commerce players are on a hiring spree, creating over 3.8 lakh temporary jobs across supply chain, logistics, and customer service functions to handle the expected surge in orders.
Flipkart is leading the drive with more than 2.2 lakh seasonal roles and the launch of 650 delivery hubs dedicated to festive operations in tier-2 and tier-3 cities. “We are scaling employment opportunities, infrastructure, and technology across 28 states. The creation of over 2.2 lakh jobs, combined with expanded last-mile reach and inclusive hiring in smaller towns, reflects our ecosystem-first approach for the season,” the company said.
Amazon India has also ramped up its workforce, generating over 1.5 lakh roles across fulfilment centres, sort centres, and last-mile delivery stations in more than 400 cities, including major hubs like Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Lucknow. To meet festive demand, the company has set up 12 new fulfilment centres, expanded six existing ones, and added sortation facilities in Hubli, Trivandrum, Rajpura, Gorakhpur, Moradabad, and Prayagraj.
Fashion marketplace Myntra has added more than 11,000 jobs through its partners, mainly to strengthen logistics, customer care, and last-mile services during its festive sale. These roles cover sorting, grading, and packaging functions at fulfilment centres in Bengaluru, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Delhi.
Staffing firms expect a sharper rise in seasonal hiring compared to last year. “We foresee a 20–25% increase in festive hiring in blue- and grey-collar roles. Demand from clients rose 53% between July and August alone, reflecting early preparations. With Diwali arriving sooner this year, the momentum will build strongly in the second quarter,” said Nitin Dave, CEO of Quess Staffing Solutions. He noted that tier-2 cities such as Jaipur, Coimbatore, Indore, and Nagpur are fast emerging as new job hubs.
According to TeamLease Services Senior Vice President Balasubramanian A, festive gig hiring in India has grown rapidly in the past five years before stabilising. While growth rates have moderated from the post-pandemic peak, the overall number of roles continues to climb, underscoring the importance of gig work in the festive economy.
“Delivery staff account for nearly 40% of festive hiring, followed by warehouse workers (20%), customer support executives (15%), retail floor staff (10%), and field technicians (8%). The hiring mix clearly reflects the dominance of logistics and delivery in the e-commerce ecosystem,” he said.
