Shares of Eros International Media jumped 4 percent intraday on Tuesday riding high on director Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus. It claims that Bajirao Mastani released worldwide on December 18 by Eros International and Bhansali Productions have garnered Rs 90.80 crore worldwide- Rs 60.80 crore in India and Rs 30 crore overseas.
"The film showed an upward graph through the weekend with collections showing a jump of 21 percent on Saturday over Friday and 44 percent on Sunday over Friday in multiplexes across India," a company statement said. The management says the film has seen occupanies ranging between 70-80 percent and expects good growth with upcoming holidays.
Eros released the Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh starrer across 3750 screens worldwide while Salman Khan Bhajrani Bhaijan saw worldwide release in around 4900 screens.
Analysts expect the new release to boost up the beaten down stock. The stock has been under constant selling from October 26 after Wells Fargo downgraded it to 'market perform', raising questions about the New York Stock Exchange-listed company's revenue from UAE business.
In September quarter, its Indian arm saw blockbuster films Bajrangi Bahijaan, Srimanthudu (Telugu), Life of Josutty (Malayalam), Welcome Back and Hero.
At 11:58 hrs Eros International Media was quoting at Rs 255.25, up Rs 6.45, or 2.59 percent on the BSE.
