A team of five kids from a government school in Malleswara are set to represent India at the First Global Challenge (FGC) robotics olympiad happening in Panama City, Florida, United States. The event, touted as the Olympics of Robotics, (FGC 2025) will be held between October 29 and November 1.
The team, consisting of children below grade 12, is being coached by Gagan Goyal, General Partner at India Quotient, an early-stage venture capital firm in India.
"The team is mentored by The Innovation Story, the students train at the Amazon Future Engineer (AFE) Makerspace, and since 2017, the STEM Education Trust has been India’s official partner for FGC. They are raising Rs 20 lakhs to cover travel, visas, stay, training, and outreach back home," the team's social media page said.
The FIRST Global Challenge (FGC) is an olympics-style, international robotics competition that takes place in a different country each year. FIRST Global invites each nation to send a team to build and program a robot to compete.
This comes at a time when VCs and investors are betting big on deep tech, including robotics, to be the next growth frontier in India.
The kids from Bengaluru's Malleswara area will represent India in a competition where over 190 countries will participate. More details, including donation details, can be found here.
