Samir Bodas, co-founder and long-time Chief Executive Officer and Executive Chairman of Software-as-a-Service firm Icertis, passed away after a battle with cancer on January 29.
His death marks a significant loss for the company and the wider enterprise software ecosystem.
Tributes described him as a visionary entrepreneur and a forceful leader who believed contracts could become a source of clarity, trust and value for organisations worldwide.
Bodas was born in Pune and moved to the US in 1982 to pursue his undergraduate education at the University of Texas at Austin. He began his career as a software programmer at National Instruments. After completing his studies at Wharton Business School, he joined Microsoft in 1992, where he held several sales and marketing roles.
In the early 2000s, he worked across companies including iMandi, Jamcracker, Disha Technology and Aztecsoft, deepening his focus on entrepreneurship and enterprise technology.
In 2009, he met Monish Darda, and together they founded Icertis, which coincided with the rise of cloud computing.
Under his leadership, Icertis grew into a global leader in contract intelligence. He helped position contracts as a critical system of record for enterprises and established contract intelligence as a core category in enterprise software.
