If you are a pensioner who is enrolled under the Employees' Pension Scheme (EPS), a scheme handled by the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), your Pension Payment Order (PPO) number is your golden entry ticket for receiving monthly pension figures. Your 12-digit PPO number, which is unique to your identity, is required for calculating pension eligibility, filing complaints, or updates in bank and residence information. Luckily, it is easy to find your PPO number if you are retiring in the near future or already receiving pension.

How to find your PPO number

When your pension is sanctioned, your employer or EPFO office provides you with a hard copy of the PPO document. That has your PPO number neatly printed at the top. If it got lost, or you never received it to begin with, your PPO number can be accessed online by using some means.

Check on the EPFO portal

You can check your PPO number by logging in on the EPFO Pensioners' Portal. Enter your registered bank account number or member ID in the 'Know Your PPO No.' section. Your PPO number will be shown at once, if the details are entered correctly.

Use the UMANG app

The UMANG (Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance) app also has a straightforward way to find your PPO. Login, then visit the 'EPFO' services option and choose 'Pensioner Services'. Choose 'Know your PPO Number'. Enter your Aadhaar or bank account number with your EPS account to get your PPO.

Visit your pension paying bank

If you are not familiar with technology or do not like the online process, you can approach your pension disbursing bank branch. You can obtain your PPO number fetched from the majority of banks if you provide them with your savings account number in respect of the pension.

Protect your PPO number

After retrieval, it would be preferable to keep a duplicate of your PPO in digital format or jot it down for future use. This number would be required while uploading life certificates, amending pension particulars, and making service requests through EPFO.
