National Stock Exchange (NSE) on February 14 said it will conduct a special trading session on March 2 with intra day switch over to disaster recovery site. The move aims to strengthen the exchanges in the event of any unforeseen incident, which may impact their operations.
The trading session will be in both equity and equity derivatives segments, said NSE. "Members are requested to note that Exchange shall be conducting a special live trading session with intra-day switch over from Primary site to Disaster Recovery site on Saturday, March 02, 2024, in Equity and Equity Derivatives segments," NSE said in a circular on Wednesday.
The session will be conducted in two phases. The first phase will be a 45-minute session starting at 9:15 am. The second special live trading session will commence at 11:30 am and conclude at 12:30 pm.
Pre-Open open time for first session will be 9 am and Pre-Open close time will be 9:08 am. The Pre-Open open time for the second session will be 11:15 am and Pre-Open close time will be 11:23 am.
The special session was to be held on January 20 but due to Ram Temple consecration ceremony in Ayodhya, a full-fledged trading session was held on January 20 and January 22 was declared a holiday for equity markets.
During March 2 session, all futures contracts can fluctuate within a 5 percent operating range during the special trading session. Securities in the Future and Options (F&O) segment will have upper and lower circuit limits of 5 percent, while those with a 2 percent limit will maintain their existing 2 percent circuit limit. This measure prevents excessive volatility and maintains market stability during the drill.
Due to March 2 being a settlement holiday, purchases made on March 1 in the equity market will be settled on Monday, March 4. Funds from F&O trades conducted on March 1 cannot be utilised during the special DR sessions to ensure that the testing does not impact the regular settlement cycle.
