Infra, roads likely to gain in near term: Goldman Sachs

Vikram Sahu of Goldman Sachs feels infrastructure and roads are likely to gain in the near-term as the construction window expands and thermal power companies may benefit from higher merchant tariffs due to power deficits.

Here are experts equity calls for the day on how the markets are expected to trade:

Ethan Harris, BoFA ML: Under our forecast, the economic data should weaken enough by the September 13 FOMC meeting to convince most Fed officials to support more QE and extend the forward guidance then. But the call on further Fed easing remains very dependant on the path of incoming data. A general improvement in the tone of data releases will reduce the chances of further easing.

Vikram Sahu, Goldman Sachs: We believe autos, consumer staples and hydro power companies are likely to be negatively impacted by the deficient monsoon in India. Most of these companies will not be in a position to pass on the higher costs due to lower fiscal spending and increased competition. Conversely, infra and roads are likely to gain in the near-term as the construction window expands and thermal power companies may benefit from higher merchant tariffs due to power deficits.
