The New Delhi declaration, which will be the consensus outcome of the India AI Impact Summit, has more than 70 countries already signed on and the number is expected to cross 80 by February 21, Union Minister for Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw said on February 20.
“By the time the summit concludes tomorrow, we should have more than 80 signatories. There is a huge consensus on the declaration. We just want to maximise the numbers,” Vaishnaw told reporters.
“All major countries that matter in AI have signed,” Vaishnaw said, while declining to name signatories.
The details of the declaration are not yet known. Details on the text are expected on February 21, with the close of the summit.
The declarations at the end of AI summits like Bletchley and Paris establish a global consensus that advanced AI must be developed safely, responsibly, and through international cooperation.
Calling the summit a “grand success”, the minister said investment commitments announced at the summit had crossed $250 billion in the infrastructure layer, with venture capital pledges exceeding $20 billion.
He added that the Pax Silica framework, which was signed between the USA and India on February 20, would be crucial for strengthening semiconductor supply chains. “We are seen as a trusted country,” he said.
