Government will be seeking public comments on the issue of foreign direct investment in the business to consumer e-commerce space, learns CNBC-TV18.
Although currently FDI in B2C e-commerce is not allowed, sources say the Department of Industry Policy And Promotion or DIPP will now float a paper on FDI in e-commerce. The policy stance will be finalised after public comments on discussion paper.
Retail industry though seems divided on the matter. While eBay India is opposed to FDI in B2C e-commerce, Amazon has supported the proposal.
Sources also say that small retailers have met department officials, in support of the idea.
