Net direct tax collections till December 17 at Rs 17.04 lakh crore, up 8% YoY

As compared to the corresponding period of last fiscal year, the net direct tax collections were up 8 percent on year. This growth is lower than the projection made in the Budget.

Refunds, meanwhile, stood at Rs 2.97 lakh crore between April 1 – December 17. This is lower by 13.52 percent as compared to same period of last fiscal.

The central government’s direct tax collections, after refunds, stood at Rs 17.04 lakh crore between April 1 to December 17 of FY26, data released by the Income Tax Department showed on Friday.

As compared to the corresponding period of last fiscal year, the net direct tax collections were up 8 percent on year. This growth is lower than the projection made in the Budget.

The Union Budget for FY26, has pegged net direct tax collections to rise 16.1 percent year-on-year.

The total advance tax after the third instalment stood at Rs 7.88 lakh crore during April 1 to December 17 as compared to Rs 7.56 lakh crore in the corresponding period in the previous fiscal.

According to the I-T data, net corporate tax collections till December 17 stood at Rs 8.17 lakh crore, up 10.5 percent on year. And net non-corporate tax collections (include personal income tax and securities transaction tax) stood at Rs 8.47 lakh crore, 6.37 percent higher on year.

The Budget had pegged net corporate tax mop-up to rise 9.7 percent year-on-year in FY26, and net non-corporate tax to increase by 21.6 percent.

Refunds, meanwhile, stood at Rs 2.97 lakh crore between April 1 – December 17. This is lower by 13.52 percent as compared to same period of last fiscal. Between April-December 17 FY25, refunds stood at Rs 3.43 lakh crore.

The gross direct tax mop-up stood at Rs 20.02 lakh crore, which was 4.16 percent up on year.
