Home-grown mobile handset player Intex Technologies on Wednesday entered the wearable segment with the unveiling of a smartwatch priced at Rs 11,999, which comes with an in-built 3G SIM card slot.

The company said it is the first Indian player to launch an Android-based smartwatch, which will be available in the market from August.

The firm said that though the wearable market in the country is at a nascent stage, it wants to evolve a market for such devices with the smartwatch.

"We are introducing a different category of products to our audience. We aim at taking home the advanced technology by our brand in order to familiarise the masses with the feature rich products which add convenience to their lives," Intex Technologies Director Keshav Bansal said while unveiling the device at the Mobile World Congress.

Bansal said that the watch can work independent of the smartphone as it comes with a SIM card slot allowing users to make calls and surf Internet.

"You don't need to carry your smartphone everywhere as the watch will let you do everything," Bansal said.

The device comes with a 512 MB RAM and 4GB ROM, which can be extended to 32GB. It has a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor and runs on Android OS, Kitkat 4.4.2 and has an in-built PlayStore App.

The device has a 600 mAh battery and a 5 megapixel camera. It also has a GPS navigation, in-build pedometer, wi-fi, bluetooth and music player.

The company, which plans to manufacture the smartwatch in India going forward, is aiming to sell 50,000 devices till Diwali this year.
