Bharat Forge's subsidiary will soon be foraying into the high-potential Indian server market in collaboration with Nasdaq-listed AMD, or Advanced Micro Devices.

The electronics division of Kalyani Powertrain announced the plans on February 24, calling it a major milestone for India's server infrastructure, and plans to integrate AMD's technology with domestically manufactured solutions.

"This collaboration with AMD is a significant step, and I am confident that we are moving in the right direction," Kalyani Group Chairman Baba Kalyani and Vice Chairman & JMD Amit Kalyani said, on the alliance. The plans will strengthen company's technological capabilities as well as support 'Make in India'.

At a recent event in Pune, Maharashtra, leaders from both Kalyani Powertrain and AMD unveiled the first EPYC CPU-based server, officially launching the strategic alliance. The partnership will cater to India's growing need for high-performance computing across industries like automotive, telecom, cloud computing and AI. The servers made by the partnership will feature AMD EPYC processors, which the company claims are leading performers in energy efficiency and security. The servers will help reduce the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for data centers, said the statement.

"The integration of AMD EPYC processors today and AMD Instinct accelerators planned in the future will enable scalable, energy-efficient infrastructure for AI, cloud computing, and data centers," Vinay Sinha, AMD Corporate Vice President, Sales - India said. AMC claims its EPYC processors can transform data centers deliver performance and energy efficiency across workloads.

The alliance has the potential to strengthen India's data infrastructure and accelerate digital transformation across industries, at a time when the nation is poised to accelerate its AI and cloud computing capabilities.

AMD is also reportedly exploring sale of its data center manufacturing plants to Asian companies. The company has lagged behind its larger rival Nvidia in generating AI revenue, and with the emergence of China's DeepSeek, there have been questions around the cost and effort that needs to go into AI infrastructure.
