Coal production starts from 2 mines allotted to Sasan UMPP

Reliance Power today announced that coal production has started from two mines allotted to the company's Sasan Ultra Mega Power Project in Madhya Pradesh and the same would touch 20 million tonnes in the next four years.
"We will be able to get 20 million tonnes per annum from these mines as a result of our efforts to optimise coal production by deploying latest and advanced mining technologies," Anil Ambani, the Chairman of Reliance Power said in an official statement."Coal production has commenced at Moher and Moher-Amlohri extension mines allotted for the 4,000 MW Sasan project," Chief Executive Officer, Reliance Power, JP Chalasani told reporters in a one-way conference call.These two coal blocks (Moher and Moher-Amlohri extension) are part of the 58 blocks which are being reviewed by an Inter-Ministerial Group.He added,"We are targeting to reach the full 20 MTPA capacity in four years' time.Coal from the mines will be used to generate electricity at Sasan plant."There will be annual production of 20 million tonnes from the Moher and Moher-Amlohri coal mines associated with the project," Chalasani said.The first 660 MW unit of Sasan UMPP is expected to be commissioned towards the end of this year," he said."The equipment, for the 4,000 MW capacity project is sourced from global leaders. "These equipment is financed by global institutions, including the US EXIM Bank," he said.The Inter-Ministerial Group (IMG) under the Chairmanship of Additional Secretary Coal would review the status of 58 coal blocks which both public and private firms failed to develop within stipulated time frame.The government has already issued de-allocation notices to 33 government firms and 25 private companies which failed to develop the same allotted for captive use in the given time-frame.
