Randeep Singh Surjewala, minister of commerce, Haryana explains to CNBC-TV18 that the state government and the Chief Minister are keen to take action on those responsible for the vandalism at the Maruti plant at Manesar are being updated on every development.

The minister, however, says that the first few reports of intelligence do not indicate that the hooliganism at the Maruti plant was pre-mediated

Q: This is not the first time that we have seen violence, breakout in an industrial dispute, in the Manesar belt. A similar incident happened at HMSI. Maruti had a dispute with the labour for about a year or so. What is your administration doing about this?

A: What happened at Maruti is really unfortunate. I think it is really sad that such an event should have happened at all in the first instance over almost no provocation.

The government is in control of the situation and as the director-general of police has informed, 99 people have been arrested so far. We have recorded the statements of the management and all the injured executives. We have registered criminal cases including for attempt to murder, murder, arson and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.

We have also spoken to the Maruti management and they explained to labour department and industries department officers about chalking out a strategy to restart production by Monday or Tuesday. The Maruti management is also going to take necessary action under their rules and regulations against all employees and supporters involved.

Q: As I said this is not the first time that we have actually seen this happen..

A: This is a question you should put to Maruti management.

Q: What are you suggesting?

A: This could be part of premeditation. The police is looking at the angle.

Q: Are you suggesting a political conspiracy?

A: I am not suggesting any political conspiracy for the moment. I said it could be a one-off incident. It could be part of premeditation. We are looking at all angles for the moment.

We have arrested most of the accused. A special investigation team has been constituted. We will explore all possible angles including the violence having been premeditated or a concerted effort to destroy industrial peace in the state, we will look at that angle also.

Q: Is your administration reaching out to other industries in the Manesar belt because our understanding is that unions from other companies are also now looking at the possibility of joining the Maruti workers?

A: We have spoken to other industries. Our labour department has also reached out to other unions. In fact, most of the people in the surrounding areas are of the opinion that such events can only destroy the industrial peace and harmony in the state, which can lead to a loss of jobs as also further propagation of industry in the area.

We are determined. Chief Minister Hooda and the government is determined to not allow this incident to happen again.
