Bring back top Indian engineers to accelerate India's semiconductor ambitions - that's the message Intel chief executive Lip-Bu Tan delivered during his recent meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as reported by The Economic Times.
Tan stressed that India's semiconductor push will advance faster if the country succeeds in attracting its highly skilled chip designers and engineers currently working at major global firms such as Qualcomm, Intel and Texas Instruments. He said that rebuilding a strong domestic talent base is essential for India to develop world-class semiconductor manufacturing capabilities.
In his discussion with Modi and IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Tan highlighted that leadership, scale and homegrown capability-building will define India's success in both semiconductors and AI. He expressed enthusiasm about supporting that journey, calling the meeting with Modi "very inspiring," ET reported.
Tan also spoke about Intel's collaboration with the Tata Group, which will involve packaging products in India for AI PCs, and said the company is looking to expand areas such as design services and advanced packaging in the country.
