Indian-origin businessman Pankaj Oswal and his wife Radhika have locked themselves in a secret location out of "immense guilt" they felt for sending their elder daughter Vasundhara to Uganda where she was jailed three weeks ago, Hindustan Times has reported.
Riddhi, their younger daughter, told the daily that her parents were feeling helpless for not being able to go to Uganda themselves.
Vasundhara has been in Uganda for three years, developing her family’s factory there. She was detained on October 1 as part of an investigation related to a missing person, according to a media report. Her family, however, claimed the charge of kidnapping pressed against her was not true, and the man was alive in Tanzania. They also claimed that she was detained without a warrant, the report said.
“As we’ve come to learn, the police in Uganda have too much power and can arrest people on a whim, even without warrants or proper court procedures," Riddhi told HT.
She said that her parents have cut off communication from the outside world and are only talking to people who can help her sister.
Riddhi is now in charge of all family and business matters as her parents are working to get their daughter freed.
