At WWDC 2024, Apple introduced the world to Apple Intelligence, its AI-powered “personal intelligence system” for iPhone, iPad and Mac that combines the power of GenAI models with personal context.

Apple Intelligence will be deeply integrated with iOS18, iPadOS18 and macOS Sequoia.

Apple’s AI voice assistant Siri will also benefit from Apple Intelligence integration into its devices. According to Apple, Siri has now entered a new era after being powered with Apple Intelligence.

Here are 6 ways Apple Intelligence will make Siri better

Siri is now more personal, natural and contextually relevant

Apple says that Siri will become more personal, natural and contextually relevant due to “richer language-understanding capabilities”.

While making a request, if users somehow stumble over words, Siri will now be able to follow along easily. Apple’s AI-powered voice assistant will also be able to maintain context from one request to the next.

Siri can give device support anywhere you go

According to Apple, “Siri can now give users device support everywhere they go, and answer thousands of questions about how to do something on iPhone, iPad, and Mac.”

Onscreen awareness

Onscreen awareness allows Siri to “understand and take action with users’ content in more apps over time.”, says Apple.

For example, if someone texts you their new address in Messages, you can respond by saying, “Add this address to her contact card.”

Siri can now take hundreds of new actions

Apple Intelligence upgrades Siri with the ability to take hundreds of new actions “in and across Apple and third-party apps.”

Examples could be queries like “Bring up that article about deforestation from my Reading List,” or “Send the photos from Sunday trekking to John”. Siri would promptly act on the new types of queries.

Deliver intelligence tailored to user and their Apple device info

With the support of Apple Intelligence, Siri will be able to deliver intelligence “tailored to the user and their on-device information.”

For example, a user can say, “Play that podcast that Meredith recommended,” and Siri will locate and play that particular podcast, without the user having to remember where Meredith recommended it, in a text message or an email.

Users can also ask “When is my brother’s flight landing?” Siri will gather the flight details and cross-reference them with real-time flight tracking to answer.

Siri will understand the choice of AirPods Pro users based on their head movements

Apple will update the AirPods software this fall, which brings a new way AirPods Pro users respond to Siri. The AirPods Pro users will be able to  privately respond to Siri with a simple head nod (for “yes”) or shake (for “no”)
