A key meeting of the Mahayuti allies BJP, Shiv Sena and NCP was put off earlier on Friday as Shinde left for his village Dare, delaying the government formation a week after the Maharashtra assembly polls results.
The oath-taking ceremony of the Maharashtra chief minister and newly-formed BJP-led Mahayuti government will take place on December 5
Bandgar received just 1,312 votes. As per the seat-sharing arrangement for the assembly polls, the BJP had left the Gangakhed seat for the RSP, but the party rejected the alliance. It fielded 93 candidates and won one seat
As per the agreement between the allies, the "One CM + 2 DCM" pattern will be repeated in Maharashtra. The CM will be from the BJP, whereas the two DCM posts will be shared by the Shiv Sena and NCP.
The survey, conducted in 103 seats a month ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly polls, showed the MVA struggling and the Ladki Bahin scheme proving to be a game-changer for the Mahayuti.
On Wednesday, Shinde said that he will accept any decision taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the CM face for Maharashtra.
The MVA's cumulative tally in the Maharashtra Assembly remains lower than what Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena has secured in this election.
In a post on X late Wednesday, Shrikant Shinde highlighted his father's deep connection with the people of Maharashtra, emphasising his relentless dedication to serving all segments of society.
Notably, Devendra Fadnavis served as the deputy CM under Eknath Shinde in the Mahayuti government since 2022 despite the BJP being the senior partner in the alliance.
Maharashtra CM News Updates: Fadnavis has reportedly secured the backing of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), which strengthens his position as the Mahayuti’s probable choice to lead the state.
While the BJP is tipped to get the chief ministerial post, its two allies -- Shiv Sena Nationalist Congress Party -- are expected to be given the post of two deputies.
A day earlier, Athawale had suggested that Shinde could become the deputy chief minister or shift to the Centre and join the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Shinde has signaled that he will not play spoilsport when BJP decides to press its claim for the CM's post.
The Mahayuti alliance, which won the Maharashtra elections by a massive margin, is yet to announce who will be the next chief minister of the state.
The current stalemate is reminiscent of the post-2019 election scenario when the Shiv Sena-BJP alliance won a majority but faced a month-long deadlock over the Chief Ministership.
Though arithmetically different, the continuing stalemate within the Mahayuti on the question of leadership serves as a reminder of the developments that followed after the 2019 polls.
Maharashtra CM News Live Updates: Eknath Shinde thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that he will abide by any decision the NDA leadership takes with regard to government formation in Maharashtra.
