Men’s fashion forecast: Menswear moodboard for fall-winter 2025

This season’s menswear narrative is simple: layer with purpose, dress with personality. From quilted vests to re-imagined varsity jackets, Fall-Winter 2025 is about building looks that are tactile, timeless, and tailored to real life — one layer at a time.

As temperatures dip and the air sharpens, menswear takes a sophisticated detour and this is where function meets finesse, and warmth comes dressed in sharp structure. The Fall-Winter 2025 season is all about intelligent layering: wearable, adaptable, and refined. Designers and stylists are championing separates that play with texture and tone through shirts, vests, and jackets with character.

The return of refined utility:

This season, men’s fashion borrows from utility dressing but reinterprets it through a lens of polish and comfort. “The fabric used for shirts is getting thicker and richer, no more cotton or flannel but a blend of both, thus giving the wearer more warmth and a soothing touch,” says Ritika Mehra, Co-Founder of Stylox Fashion. She adds, “The colours setting the mood for the season include classic checks, plaids, and deep solid tones — charcoal, olive, rust, and maroon. The silhouettes are loose but have a certain structure to them; they can be worn under other garments or on their own, and the utility pockets, subtle contrast collars, and overshirt styling features add to the adaptability of the pieces.”

The modern man’s wardrobe now demands this kind of flexibility with clothes that move effortlessly from coffee catch-ups to creative workspaces, or from city strolls to weekend getaways.

The art of effortless warmth

When the chill sets in, layering becomes the ultimate test of style and smarts. This year’s approach is about balance in warmth without bulk, and contrast without chaos. “If they are quilted or slightly padded, with zip fronts and stand collars, then the earthy tones are the ones that will dictate the season’s look,” says Mehra, referring to the season’s key players like vests and gilets. These mid-layers not only add dimension but also create visual texture that elevates even the simplest base.

Perfect layering:

A well-layered outfit starts with a solid base. Choosing a versatile checked or solid full-sleeve shirt is a smart beginning; wear it open over a classic tee for a laid-back look or tuck it neatly under a jacket for a refined edge. “The secret is to have the right amount of structure and comfort; thick cotton fabrics in darker shades like olive, navy, and rust not only give warmth but also allow the skin to breathe,” says Mehra. "To this, a sleeveless vest or gilet adds as a functional mid-layer — just right for giving an illusion of depth without the drawback of being bulky. And, the varsity jacket is the one that steals the show as the outerwear piece which is not only practical but also gives off a modern sporty look. It can be worn over shirts or hoodies and together with dark denims or chinos creates a complete outfit", Mehra adds.

The colour code: earthy, deep, and dependable

The Fall-Winter 2025 palette speaks in quiet, confident tones. “Follow earthy or monochrome layering and use a beanie or scarf as a way to accessorize so that the dressing remains cohesive, functional, and stylishly effortless in the colder months,” Mehra recommends.

Think taupe, khaki, and camel as your foundation shades  — the modern neutrals that slip seamlessly from desk to dinner. Deeper tones like charcoal, navy, and forest green bring gravitas, while brick red, rust, and moss lend warmth and personality. And, of course, black and white continue to anchor it all with endlessly versatile.
