Princess Diana's has a new wax statue and this one has found its place in one of Europe's oldest wax museums. We dare say it looks better than the existing one at Madame Tussauds! The wax statue features Diana in the iconic and famous "revenge dress".
Wondering what prompted another wax statue of the princess in Paris? Well, when director of the Grevin museum visited London, he was not very impressed to see Diana's wax statue at Madame Tussauds. The result? He decided to commission his own version. Well, he clearly did a good job.
The wax statue was unveiled on an interesting date. Well, yes! It was unveiled on November 20, the same day when the late princess had given a rather tell-all interview to the BBC 'Panorama'. Many deemed that the interview tainted the image of monarchy and the Queen.
In the life-size wax statue of the princess, the flattering, body-hugging "revenge dress" on Diana is the same dress that she had worn at a Serpentine Gallery event in London in 1994. She stepped out looking all glam right after Prince Charles had acknowledged on television that he had been unfaithful to Princess Diana and cheated on her with Camilla Parker Bowles.
In a statement, Grevin museum said, "More than 28 years after her tragic death in Paris, Diana is still a major figure in global pop culture, celebrated for her style, humanity and independence." On the decision of choosing to display Princess Diana's statue in the "revenge dress", the museum added, "The gown became a statement of reclaimed self-assertion, a powerful image of determined femininity and renewed confidence."
In the new wax statue, Princess Diana is dressed to the nines. She can be seen wearing high heels, matching studs, a beautiful pearl choker neckpiece and sheer black stockings, looking all poised and glamourous.
What's interesting is that many have noted that the wax statue of Princess Diana is positioned far away from the statues of Prince William and Queen Elizabeth II. Her statue is placed right under the museum’s dome and it is alongside great fashion figures like Jean Paul Gaultier, Chantal Thomass, and even the late French queen Marie-Antoinette who was beheaded in 1793.
