Hair oiling has travelled a long way, from living rooms scented with warm coconut oil to the new-age social-media feeds of international celebrities. From famous people to global influencers, the world is now celebrating the glossy, nourished look Indians have loved for generations.
According to Dr Vaishali Gode, EVP, R&D, Product Development (Nourishment) and Packaging, Marico Limited, the real magic lies in what oiling does beneath the surface. “Unlike quick-fix styling products, hair oiling penetrates deep into the hair shaft, repairing damage and strengthening strands from within,” she explains. When done regularly, it reduces split ends, boosts shine, and improves your hair health.
Surprisingly, it’s the younger generation. For many today, hair oiling isn’t just beauty, it’s identity. “Oiling has been reimagined as cool, stylish and aspirational,” Dr Gode tells Moneycontrol.
The younger generation is embracing it as a blend of tradition and wellness, a ritual that is simple, affordable, and backed by both science and culture. It has become a lifestyle statement—self-care with roots.
Hair oiling has moved from tradition to trend, but its charm remains unchanged. As Dr Gode says, “The simplest rituals often offer the most lasting beauty.”
