India Couture Week 2025: Daring necklines take center stage on bollywood showstoppers

Whether it was the metallic edge of Khushi’s sculptural halter, the classic-meets-contemporary plunge on Bhumi, or the whimsical softness of Tamannaah’s embroidered neckline, the bridal looks from ICW 2025 made one thing clear -- this season, the neckline is the statement.

At this year’s India Couture Week (ICW) 2025, the spotlight wasn’t just on embellishments, embroidery, or ethereal fabrics -- it was the bold, innovative necklines that had everyone talking. From plunging silhouettes to sculptural halters, Bollywood’s favourite style stars brought daring décolletage to the centre stage, redefining what bridal and couture elegance means today.

Leading the trend is Bollywood starlet Khushi Kapoor, who walked the ramp for Delhi-based designer Rimzim Dadu. Representing Dadu’s latest collection, Oxynn, Khushi looked futuristic yet rooted in heritage. She donned a statement two-piece ensemble, featuring a sculptural halter-neck blouse crafted from metallic textile. Paired with a long coordinating skirt, the look was both edgy and elegant. The halter neckline, a departure from traditional bridal cuts, framed Khushi’s stone-studded choker beautifully, adding to the overall drama. The collection itself paid homage to Gujarat’s Banjara tribes, with reimagined Patola prints and mirror work rendered through industrial materials like steel wires and custom textiles. Khushi’s look was a perfect styling class in merging craftsmanship with couture innovation.

Echoing the power of dramatic necklines was veteran couturier Ritu Kumar, whose collection Threads of Time: Reimagined marked a regal return to the ICW runway. Actor Bhumi Pednekar served as the perfect muse, radiating quiet authority in a beige lehenga featuring gold and brown sequin threadwork and gota patti detailing. But it was her blouse that turned heads as she sported a gorgeous sleeveless, plunging neckline bordered with delicate lace and intricate thread embroidery. The daring neckline contrasted with the traditional fabrications, creating a sensual yet chic statement. The addition of an ornamental waist belt further enhanced Bhumi’s silhouette, making the entire ensemble feel majestic yet modern. Her outfit was a testament to how heritage design can be both timeless and forward-looking when tailored with contemporary cuts and a perfect idea for a newage bride.

Meanwhile, actress Tamannaah Bhatia brought shimmer and sentimentality to the opening show of ICW 2025. Walking for designer Rahul Mishra in his collection Becoming Love, she showcased the emotional stages of love through fashion. Her second look in a white lehenga with a plunging halter-neck blouse was nothing short of dreamy. The designer blouse featured delicate micro floral embroidery, offering a soft texture to balance its bold neckline. Paired with a voluminous skirt detailed with sequined motifs of clouds, lotus blooms, and waves, the outfit served as a poetic metaphor for celebration, as Mishra described it. The neckline didn’t just flatter -- it framed the wearer in a sense of confidence and vulnerability that felt deeply romantic.
