Breast cancer is the most prevalent cancer among women all over the world, and India has witnessed a gradual increase in reported cases in the past decade. Even though the message is receiving more attention, a lot of myths and misinformation continue to shroud women’s thinking about this illness. Not only do these misconceptions perpetuate needless fear, they can also deter women from early testing, diagnosis and treatment.

Dr Rashmi Deshmukh, a Senior Oncologist at Asha Oncology Centre, Bengaluru, tells Moneycontrol, “The real problem for breast cancer awareness is not limited availability of treatment but the myths that prevent women from seeking help. Early detection saves lives and the correct information is the first step.”
