Drinking alcohol might give you pleasure, but it is temporary and comes with complex health problems. Many doctors and health experts warn against its use as its consumption is associated with the risk of several diseases, such as liver diseases, heart diseases, and several types of cancers.

Nutritionist Suman Agarwal took to her Instagram account to explain the positive impact quitting alcohol has on the body. In her caption, she wrote, “If you quit alcohol, here are the changes you’ll start noticing within just 3 days, and trust me, your body will thank you for it.”

What happens when you quit alcohol for 3 days or more?

  • 3 Days: If you leave alcohol for three days, your body starts the initial process of detoxification. You will experience improved hydration, reduced bloating, and enhanced sleep quality.
  • 7 Days: If you leave alcohol for seven days, your liver will start the detoxifying process, your sleep quality will improve further, and your skin will look less puffy and more fresh.
  • 90 Days: If you leave alcohol for ninety days, you are de-addicted, your liver is completely healed, your blood sugar levels stabilise, you will have a stronger immune system, feel much lighter, and have radiant and fresh skin.

While it’s considered that exercise may help, it doesn’t negate the consequences of drinking alcohol.

Several cardiologists warn against its consumption, including Dr Dmitry Yaranov, a heart transplant surgeon. In one of his videos on Instagram, he shared how “1 in 3 heavy drinkers will develop alcoholic cardiomyopathy—where the heart muscle weakens and can lead to heart failure.” He further added that alcohol use can raise your blood pressure, trigger irregular heart rhythms, increase the risk of having a stroke, and coronary artery disease.
