The New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH) confirmed that the infected person, a non-New Jersey resident, was contagious while attending the concert, raising concerns about potential exposure among thousands of fans. The exposure occurred between 7:30 PM on May 15 and 1:00 AM on May 16 at MetLife Stadium, a venue that hosted thousands for Shakira’s high-energy performance.

Symptoms of measles

Measles symptoms typically develop 7 to 14 days after exposure, meaning concertgoers could become ill as late as June 6, 2025. Measles symptoms often start with a high fever, followed by a dry cough, runny nose, red, watery eyes, and a rash that begins at the hairline and spreads downward.

Other signs include fatigue and body aches. Complications can include pneumonia, brain swelling, and pregnancy-related risks like miscarriage or early labour.

Risk of infection: 

Those most at risk include people who haven’t had both doses of the MMR vaccine, babies under 12 months, pregnant individuals, those with weakened immune systems, and unvaccinated international travellers.
