Dr Jain shares 10 common childhood allergy triggers, and how parents can prevent them:
1. Dust mites in mattresses and carpets
Prevention: Wash bed sheets and pillow covers weekly in hot water and avoid heavy curtains or carpets that trap dust.
2. Mould and fungus during monsoon
Prevention: Keep rooms well-ventilated and dry. Use a dehumidifier or sunlight to stop mould from growing.
3. Pollen in spring and windy weather
Prevention: Limit outdoor play on high-pollen days. Encourage children to wash hands, face, and hair after playing outside.
4. Pet hair and dander
Prevention: Groom pets regularly and keep them out of children’s bedrooms. Vacuum floors with a HEPA filter.
5. Cockroach droppings in kitchens
Prevention: Keep kitchens clean, store food tightly, and don’t leave crumbs or standing water.
6. Certain foods like milk, eggs, peanuts, seafood
Prevention: Introduce new foods slowly, watch for reactions, and consult a doctor before reintroducing any suspected triggers.
7. Air pollution in cities
Prevention: Avoid outdoor activities during high-pollution hours. Use indoor air purifiers with HEPA filters.
8. Insect bites or bee stings
Prevention: Dress children in light-coloured clothes, avoid strong perfumes outdoors, and use safe insect repellents.

Treatment options
There are several ways to help children feel better depending on the problem. Doctors may suggest antihistamines, nasal sprays, inhalers, or skin creams. In severe cases, immunotherapy or even life saving injections may be required. Many families also turn to home remedies like turmeric milk Tulsi or steam inhalation often alongside medical treatment
