Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma shares update on Zubeen Garg death

Singer Zubeen Garg died on Friday following a scuba diving accident. He was swimming on a yacht with some Assamese who were based in Singapore and his teammates, when he suffered from dyspnea and a seizure.

After receiving CPR, he was taken to Singapore General Hospital, where, at approximately 2.50 pm IST on Friday, he was pronounced dead.

The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, has recently revealed that the chief organiser of the Northeast Festival, Shyam Kanu Mahanta, and his manager, Siddhartha Sharma, have been the subject of numerous First Information Reports (FIRs).

The Assam CM took to his official X (formerly Twitter) and wrote, “Multiple FIRs have been filed against Shri Syamkanu Mahanta and Shri Sidharth Sarma in connection with the unfortunate and untimely demise of our beloved Zubeen Garg. I have directed the DGP, Assam Police, to transfer all the FIRs to the CID and to register a consolidated case for a thorough investigation."

Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has also informed that Singapore authorities have finished the postmortem of singer Zubeen Garg, who died on Friday. His body is anticipated to arrive in New Delhi on Saturday.

However, the organisers have cancelled the North East India festival following singer Zubeen Garg’s tragic death to show respect and convey their sorrow over the singer's passing.

The organisers clarified in the earlier statement, “During the meeting, we received a call from Zubeen’s manager informing us that he had met with an accident and had been rushed to Singapore General Hospital. We later learned that a few members of the local Assamese community had taken him on a yacht visit, of which we had no prior knowledge."
