Tamil actor Ajith Kumar is celebrating his 54th birthday this year. The actor recently received India’s third-highest civilian honour, the Padma Bhushan award, on April 28. The actor credited his wife, Shalini, for his success, leaving fans to wonder more about her.

Shalini Ajith is a former child actress who starred in the lead role in several blockbuster films before leaving the entertainment industry.

Shalini Ajith, previously known as Baby Shalini, was born to a Pentecostal Christian family. Her father is a Malayali Muslim, and her mother is a Pentecostal Christian Malayali. She has two siblings, a younger sister, Shamili, and an older brother, Richard. Her siblings are also actors.

The former actress studied at Adarsh Vidyalaya, Chennai and Church Park, Chennai. She completed her graduation from Annamalai University. Shalini is also a sports person and enjoys playing badminton. Additionally, she has also played in a few state-level tournaments.

Shalini Ajith's acting credits

Shalini made her acting debut as a child artist with the Malayalam film, Ente Mamattukkuttiyammakku in 1983. She then took a hiatus from acting to focus on her studies before bagging a lead role in the TV serial Amloo.

Soon after completing her studies, she made a comeback in 1997 and went on to become a prominent actress in Malayalam and Tamil language films.

She starred in some of the blockbuster films, including Aniyathipravu. She has also starred in Kaliyoonjal (1997) with Mammootty and Dileep, Amarkalam (1999) with Ajith Kumar, Kannukkul Nilavu (2000) and Alai Payuthey (2000) with R Madhavan. However, the actress was last seen in Piriyadha Varam Vendum with Prashanth, which was released in 2001.

Shalini and Ajith Kumar met on the set of the 1999 film Amarkalam. The couple sparked romance while shooting the film and tied the knot in 2000 in Chennai in the presence of their close family members and some industry professionals.

However, Shalini then decided to quit her acting career with two unfinished films. The couple share two children, Anoushka and Aadvik.

Ajith Kumar talks about his wife Shalini’s support

After receiving the prestigious honour, Ajith appreciated his wife’s support and credited her for everything he has achieved in his life. He also revealed that his wife, Shalini, was once very popular and loved by her fans, yet she took a backseat and stood by him.

In an interview with India Today, Ajith said, “I am not trying to sound politically correct here. I mean it in every sense. As you all know, she was very popular and loved by her fans. And for her to take to a backseat - there were times when my decisions were wrong. But, she still stood by me, not discouraging me. And standing by my side through tough times. She deserves a lot of credit for everything I have achieved in my life.”
