Karisma Kapoor and businessman Sunjay Kapur were married for over a decade, but their relationship was tumultuous, ultimately leading to a bitter divorce. The former couple’s divorce made headlines, with Karisma accusing Sunjay of having an extramarital affair, while he accused the actress of marrying him for his wealth.
However, veteran actor and Karisma Kapoor’s father, Randhir Kapoor, never approved of their romance. He had even called Sunjay a ‘third-class man’.
During a throwback interview with Hindustan Times, Randhir said, “Sunjay is a third-class man. I never wanted Karisma marrying him. He has debauchery in his system and never cared for his wife. He has been giving bull** to her, and living with another woman. The entire Delhi knows how he is. I would not like to say anything more than this.”
The veteran actor’s reaction came soon after Sunjay claimed that Karisma married him for his money. Karisma’s lawyer, Kranti Sathe, later denied the claims in an official statement. The statement reads, “The allegations against Karisma are all false. We shall soon give a reply, but the onus is on Sunjay to prove these allegations in the court.”
However, Sunjay later filed a petition in the court accusing Karisma of failing “as a wife, a daughter-in-law and a mother.” The petition further claimed she had an extramarital relationship.
Sunjay married Karisma Kapoor in 2003 and parted ways in 2016. They share two children, a daughter, Samaira and a son, Kiaan. He was previously married to fashion designer and socialite Nandita Mahtani. However, he was married to Priya Sachdev at the time of his death.
Sunjay Kapur is survived by his mother, Rani Surinder Kapur, wife Priya Kapur, and other children Safira and Azarias. He is also survived by his and Karisma’s kids, Samaira and Kiaan.
