Popular comedian and television host Kapil Sharma’s restaurant, Kap’s Café, in Canada came under attack in broad daylight. According to reports, the incident involved multiple gunshots fired at the establishment, with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang allegedly claiming responsibility via a Facebook post.
The All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has condemned the attack in the strongest possible terms, calling it a “direct threat” to the Indian film industry.
In an official statement issued on August 8, AICWA President Suresh Shyamlal Gupta described the incident as part of a dangerous pattern of underworld intimidation reminiscent of the 1990s.
“This is not just about Kapil Sharma,” Gupta stated. “It concerns the millions of livelihoods dependent on the Indian film industry. Such acts of violence are an attempt to instill fear in artists and disrupt the cultural backbone of the nation.”
AICWA’s statement highlighted that this was not an isolated case, citing earlier threats and attacks involving prominent personalities such as Salman Khan, Baba Siddique, and Saif Ali Khan. The association believes these incidents form part of a “deliberate campaign to terrorise artists” and urged immediate government action.
Four-Point Appeal to Government
In its press release, AICWA put forward a four-point appeal to Union Home Minister Amit Shah:
Urgent Attention – The Union Home Ministry must take immediate cognizance of the escalating threats against Indian film personalities.
Diplomatic Engagement – Initiate high-level talks with the Prime Minister of Canada to ensure the safety of Indian nationals abroad, especially high-profile celebrities.
Coordinated Security Efforts – Central investigative and security agencies should extend full support to Kapil Sharma, coordinating with Canadian authorities to identify and apprehend the culprits.
Swift Canadian Action – Urge Canadian law enforcement to expedite the investigation and implement a foolproof security framework for Sharma and his team.
